I have a few pictures that I want to do rework so that they look like the two guys on the right on the link below.... http://www.kingunique.com/

I have tried many different things, but I can't get it right! Is it possible to make it in PhotoShop 6 or must I do it in Flash?
It would be really great if someone could give me some tips! Thanks alot!

You could do it using DHTML I am sure. The pictures would be done in photoshop of course, or some other comperable program ~Gimp~ if they are on the Linux boxes.

The site was done in Flash, and it seems a bit complicated, or not. Take the images and make them move. I think the main thing with that site is story boarding. You have to know what you want to do, and how the navigation works, and you should be able to come up with something comperable. Start with paper and pencil, have fun.

threep looks quizzically at warmage's response, and issues his own, believing that his answer may be a little closer to what modebond wants:
"hey MB, here's the best way i can figure it out:
1) convert to greyscale
2) run a gaussian blur on the photo, at about 2.5 - enough to fuzz together the detail you don't want in the photo, but keep the detail you do want
3) run image > adjust > levels, and pull the two outer arrows into the middle somewhere. this has to be personally adjusted - don't pull them too close
4) if you can't get it to look right, that's ok - try leaving the arrows a fair way apart in step three, then run step two again, and try step three again.

alternatively, using the 'trace bitmap' function in flash may also work - but im not sure how well. all you have to remember is to limit your colours to 1 or 2, and make it nice and smooth tracing. prepping the image in photoshop would be beneficial!

good luck!"

threep offers one last tip:
"um, you also have to make sure its a good photo - it needs to have the right lighting to work out best.
feel free to post the image up here for us to play with too!
oh, and welcome!"

<edit> threep decides to throw in a handy filter for good measure:
"try using filter > artistic > cutout as well, could be some fun to play with!"

All I did for this was take the pen tool and trace out random selections of shadows on top of a picture of myself. Then I filled those with black and filled a layer right below that with white.

This is really crude but you get the point...

Do you know how the picture of the two guys are made?

Its very easy...

Its only a 2 steps process

Just go to image>Adjust>Threshold. And set it from 128 and up to keep more details.

You may have to blur it some after that, but if you blur it here you wont be able to color it easy, cause youll have to play some more with the colorrange, so i recommend you to color it first, then do the bluring.

To Color it, heres how.

GoTo Selection>Colorrange> and then select the black with 1 fuzzyness, (maybe the fuzziness here is not important because its only black and white, only 2 colors no middle tones to choose, but if you have blur it youll need to find this out for your self), hit ok and fill with the color you want, and then do the same to white.

If you didnt understand i can make you a tutorial. just say it here.

edit: Now that i read that again the threshold setting of 128 and up, its not really like that, because it will depent a lot of the photo, so you will have to play with that a bit too.

its not very easy to work with the pen tool.
you need to use it a lot to make a good use of it.

but, you could do it that way too, like kresminky said. And that should help ya get better at this, cause my way you really dont do anything at all.

No real good photo need cause you only use 2 colors, no lighting and shadow involved.

Edit : Ahh, just read what 3rdperson said, you could also do it that way too.
