too compressed. That said, how are you saving them? From what app?

Photoshop's "Save for Web" feature let's you specify the compression level ("quality") when saving, anything over 60 is going to look pretty sharp as a general rule. The lower you go the more artifacts you get but you gain by shrinking the file size. Higher and you get crisper images but a greater file size.

dig?

whoa there Mr Keen! do your images need to be jpgs?.. will gif files do?.. generally... photographic type images do better using jpgs, wheres as line art, images with few colour with harsher transitions are better suited to gif...

darn... how eager?

well then refer to JkMabry's answer.. your trying to compress to much out of the image.. also check your monitors res and colors...

edit: plus check your document ppi... if its for web use it should only be 72ppi .. that helps with file size too!

Don't use jpegs in Flash. Read this thread:

This only applies to Flash. For general HTML yes of course you need to optimize. But Flash will do a pretty good job internally, so it's best to start with something uncompressed (png works for me) so Flash isn't compressing an already compressed image.

I really don't know all the ins and outs with bitmapped images in Flash. All I can say is that, for me, importing pngs works well.
