hey DL, i used your tutorial at the gurus to make that interface:
www.embege.f2s.com/iface/

my problem is the lower right corner of the blue thingie. it should get darker at the end, but there is a pixel-wide line which is light blue.
how do i get rid of this?

thanks a lot!

btw: DL, when are you gonna finish this tutorial series?

Move the shadow layer one pixel down, create selection from bottom 3d layer, inverse selection, then go back to the shadow layer and delete everything from the selection (parts that are outside bottom 3d layer)...

i think that background doesn't fit to the navigation with its smooth corner....

that's a stock bg...dunn't exactly fit the iface feel. i'd go with a flat phong blue bg (#0091FF). and maybe lose the texturing, making it kinda a jellybean smoothness might be kinda nice.

That background is part of DocOzone's background collection, which can be found here: http://www.ozones.com/backgrounds/ ("Archive 6" contains that background)

at work, so I don't have much time, but let me take a look...

well, it depends on where the line came from. is it on the same layer with the blue textured part? if so, it may be left over from the lighting effects. if that's the case, try this:

select the shape of the blue layer.

inverse the selection

nudge it up and left 1px,

delete.

you may need to adjust the alignment of your layers or repeat the process on your other layers afterward...depending on how you have things set up.

I'll check back when I get home

(p.s. - I agree about losing the background and going for a smooth 'jellybean' kind of look)

I think a simple coilred background may do the trick! For now anyway

if it hurts, put a magnet on it!

My first impression of that thing is that its just huge. I mean, do you really need that much real estate for 3 buttons? I run at 1600x1200 and I shudder at the thought of that that must look like at a lower resolution.

The lighting effects are well done but they aren't anything spectacular.

Somehow I think this was thrown together fairly quickly. I've seen better from you.

Background still doesn't fit very well with the rest of design. Also, navigation buttons are extremely large without anu reason...

its made for 1024x786.
i wanted to keep it clean and simple. no such tiny links...
but thanks for the input. you have a point, both of you.

ah, and btw: i need an eye, which i want to place into the bottom-button. (inside the "portfolio")
anyone has a good eye for me?

1) garish. the interface part itself is very bright, and the muttled colors in the background clash horribly. SIMPLIFY.

2) to echo: HUGE. regardless what resolution you intend it for (and of course, specifically designing for 1024 is not a great idea), it is still exceptionally large.

Like krets said, I've seen better from you. I think the important thing is to try and simplify and streamline.
