Well... it's been a fair amount of time since I've really posted anything around here for any sort of review....
honestly... I haven't been working on too much lately.... my mind has been pre-occupied.

HOWEVER.... today I'd like to get your thoughts and opinions on a little something I've been working on here and there....
I know it's far from finished... and as much as I despise things getting posted that are in this "state"... I'm going to do it anyway because I enjoy my own hypocracy.

There's no real background as to why I'm creating this image....
..it's all just for some good wholesome practice I guess you could say.

It's an image that started with an emotion... 'nuff said.

Your thoughts please.

AHHHHHHH!

"has no meaning"....

*shakes head*... no no non nloonono non onn non onnonn; non on no... NO!

Just the opposite my friend.
It doesn't have a background as to why I'm doing it.... it's out of emotions.... it has an enormous amount of meaning....

*sigh*
*takes beer bottle and slams it into forehead*
arrrggg!

edit: btw... I'm glad you like it.

Meaning? Bah! That's for the individual. I like it as it stands. It speaks to me in a subtle way.

Depression is...
Bluish white with
Bruises of greyness,
Purple auras
Surrounding the vague,
Deep red streaking
The docile browns.
Then all goes black.
This is how I see.

Sorry I didn't mean your work has no meaning to it, I was just saying it because most of my work I do has no meaning as it is just for prictice work.

Your work has meaning if you want it to have one. Saying that most of people think that all art has an meaning behind it or something to say. And yes there right, but to me having an meaning in art is piontless. Art is there to tell an story of that person, object, etc......

Well thats my thought of art anyway.

Sorry if it spilled some of your nice cold beer....(if bottle was full)...

oh anyway if it sound a big bunch of crap thats because I'am need sleep......arrrr....sleep......

Nice.

Uniform isn't the right word, but it comes to mind. Same with pickles and peanut butter, but we won't go there. It just seems a little, um, small, or something. I know! It seems like a rough draft of what would make an awesome fucking huge poster if it had tons and tons of little intricate stuff. Or maybe that's just cause i've been staring at too many large posters lately. As you said, it seems far from finished. This would make and awesome sorta mid/background to somekinda unifying element or something single definable thing going across the middle. Like for twitch's WTF if did a wall that seems so cluttered and misdirected but I put just some segmented pipes through the center and seemed to bring things together more.

here's an 800 of that wall -edit-DL's gonna kill me b/c the text is still maynard's lyrics...i've got new words though DL! I'll put 'em up soon.

Admitted hypocrasy is the easiest way to live.

So you have my thoughts feel free to sell them, forget them, or feed them to the dogs...

Okay, wanna know what I see?

I see a wall in a dark, futuristic cyber-Japan. The walls are paper, yet without any of the simple purity of traditional paper walls. These walls are dingy and yellowed with age and neglect. A single candle lights the room behind the wall, where a lone figure skulks. He passes close to the candle, unaware or perhaps uncaring of the shadow he throws. An object is strapped to his back (a sword, perhaps?), the shadow of which protrudes threateningly from his dark silhouette.

Well, you asked...

BTW, it's a really cool pic.

Fallen, it seems that you aren't the only one who thinks this should be expanded.... a similar comment came from someone I bumped into when I travelled too far beyond the black stump...
defintately still working on it...

I'd like more opinions... keep 'em coming if you can, everyone...

the only thing it lacks is a singular focus.

as warjournal said, I like it as is...it speaks subtly. whatever meaning it may have for you, I look at it and I am very familiar with the feeling it conveys.

It's kind of like a silent scream.

I love the shift-to-the-right in the upper half of the image....gives it the depth that it needs. The colors are great, and the shadow is well layed....

now we just need a foreground

(p.s.: fallen - don't mind me.....wasn't coming down on you or anything....just in the given context of that time it seemed inappropriate)

yeah, dl i understand, definitely was innappropriate though.

taxon, looking at it again, it reminds me of a factory with smokestacks, on fire, reflecting in a polluted river below...maybe expand on that feeling with a photographic manip foreground in b/w or some dissonating color combo...

A pet peeve of mine from this place is the lack of effort.
People post things... and then do not follow up on their graphics after people have made comments...

I think I'll break the stagnant waters and press on with this image...

Could I have your thoughts yet again...?

Graphics... whether personal or corperate go through a process of being evaluated day in and day out.
It's best just to take all the feedback you can and juggle it the best way possible around in your mind.
Keep posting....
and I'll keep working and showing you what I've accomplished.

Cheers,
Mike

Taxon,

I just had a question about your pic. On the right side, did you intentionally put the two faces there? They share a common nose. If so, awesome! If not, REALLY awesome! heh.

Maybe I am seeing things, tho. And if THAT is the case, well... Awesome!

It's late here. Need sleepy. Gonna go to bed now. Bed is AWESOME!

Awesome improvement taxon. Yet it still lacks some definable foreground. Add some single definable element.

Umm what exactly are you trying to practice here? You said you it started with an emotion and that?s great, but I thing you should also end it that way. Actually, I think you should have left it just how it was.

I like the first one heaps better, in many ways. The composition would have to be the most striking aspect about your first image.
The three bold white broken lines on the left and the single broken line to the right separated by the dark areas portray a strong sense of separation. The colours you used are fantastic, the yellows describe you well and the hints of green and red keep it from falling into the common pitfalls of you run-o-the mill monochrome. The overall texture is also good. I like the mix of geometrically repetitive patterns coupled with some very nice chaotic elements.

Then I look at the second image you posted and well.. I just seemed to loose everything. For starters, the colours didn't work as well. I loved the colours of the first image but now you have oranges and pink-browns which well, arr... The image of your head (that is your head isn't it?) just looks wrong. It's completely devoid of colour, which could have worked well but it just doesn't seem to fit in. You also added a 3 dimensional element and I couldn?t seem to work out why. By adding this the image starts try's to say it's about something else, something a little more material, which contrasts badly to it's previous emotional state. This could also be why the head doesn't seem to fit. The aspect of the overall image also seemed to work better when it wasn't almost square. This could be because of the dramatic change to the composition though, which also worked heaps better in the first image. The composition of this image just seems it's too erratic and broken. Overall, It think it's too busy, it contradicts itself which hinders it's potential beauty.

I realize you wanted to add something more then just the emotion you first put into this but I don't think you need to. The first piece works extremely well. Sometimes, the hardest point is knowing when to stop, look at what you created and see it for what it really is and not what your trying to create. Often you'll find what you already have is better than what you wanted.

Than again, you could also just say I'm full of crap, but you ask for my thoughts, so you got them.

I like your first design better too. Second one doesn't pull together too well. It has a very complex upper left and the rest just is big and doesn't do much for the rest of the design. The only emotion that I am seeing in it is frustration. But I do like the blending that is occuring. Keep working on it. There's potential.

edit=I really like your collection of sigs. Especially the sock puppet one. LMAO

To breifly address why the first image has more depth in it's intricacy is fairly simple....

the first image took a fair amount of time to create....
the second image hasn't had nearly the same amount of time put towards it.
Trying to juggle the color scheme alone between the two has been a big focus.... when I start laying out the big elements.... then everything can be refined.

most good things don't come quick or easy.
