Hi folk

a transparent gif??

You can see my sig below...there is still a bg in a darker
red...I tried many ways to make the bg transparent but

Naah. What I do is:

(note: CTRL is COMMAND at Macs)

1. Get your design on a transparent background
2. Make a selection around it. (press CTRL-A to select the full canvas)
3. Press CTRL-SHIFT-C (edit>copy merged) (the name tells it)
4. open a new document (the size should be automatically the size of the thing you copied at step 3, press OK.
5. Paste (CTRL-V)
6. CTRL-Click on the layer you pasted.
7. Go to quick mask mode (press Q)
8. Click image>adjust>treshold
9. move the treshold slider all the way to the left, maybe not completely to the left if your image has blurred edges.
10. press CTRL-I (invert), press Q again, and press delete.
11. Invert the selection (CTRL-SHIFT-I), make a new layer BELOW the layer and fill the selection with the color of the background it's supposed to be on. (if it's for the forum, use the color #2B0404 (red:43 green:4 blue:4) it's the average color of both backgrounds)
12. export it happily with GIF export and don't worry about any other matte color.

People with PS5.5 and PS6.x just use the save for web feature. if you do that, just set the matte color to the average of the forum backgrounds.

well, to make sure this step-by-step-thing is complete, a minor explanation of the save for web thinglet:

1. Get your design on a transparent background
2. Make a selection around it. (press CTRL-A to select the full canvas)
3. Press CTRL-SHIFT-C (edit>copy merged) (the name tells it)
4. open a new document (the size should be automatically the size of the thing you copied at step 3, press OK.
5. Paste (CTRL-V)
6. Click File>save for web (CTRL-SHIFT-ALT-S)
7. Enter the desired amount of colors, the matte color and all other stuff, press okay> done.

if you have PS 5.5 on PC

You can do the following with a PSD file
1. Make the background layer (in your case the dark red layer) "invisible" (click the "eye" off see pic)
2. Press ALT+CTRL+SHIFT+S (or File, Edit, Save for Web)
3. Window pops up with image on left hand side,
4. on right hand side, tick Transparency box,
5. Click on Matte, choose colour for transparency
6. Give file a name *.gif - be careful not to overwrite the psd file

and Voila! Took me a while to get it, but this is how i do it now.

Edit: Sigh....looks like Mahjqa beat me to it again

Use the original psd. Turn off the background layer so that you see that grey and white checkerboard pattern underneath your sig...

Why don't you make the background color 240000 and set mode to indexed color, then export it with the Gif89a filter, make the background color transparent...
Still works for me.

well as far as i can see, ACDSee shows the colour that is supposed to be transparent.
It doesn't affect the image in any way though, so the bg is still transparent in a browser.

hmm....what does it look like in a browser? if the browser's bg is, lets say, orange?
try it in a browser rather as that is the way everyone else will be seeing it.
