Hi all....

If you take a look at the pills below, you'll notice that one has a brighter glow (left) than the other one (right)
I did one pill in PS 5.5 (left) and the other pill in PS 6 (right), in exactly the same way.
4 layers with the top layer (bottom glow) in colour dodge blending mode.

and

My question is this....
Why does PS 6 not show the glow effect (colour dodge) at all like PS 5.5 does?
When I click on the dissolve mode, both PS 5.5 and PS 6 do the same thing, but not with colour dodge?
Has anyone had a problem like this? Am I supposed to set something in PS 6 in order to see this effect?

Thanking you in advance

it's an irritating "fix" that they made to the dodge and burn tools/blending modes, it's not as dramatic.

Lot of people don't like it but it's supposedly more realistic as compared with darkroom technique I guess.

I guess I'll have to stick with PS 5.5 then....for the meantime....until I find sometime to practise PS 6

I still think that the colour dodge looks better in 5.5 than 6. Gives it a real glow
With 6 colour dodge looks like a normal layer thats been blurred on top of another layer...
sigh...any other "drastic changes"?

I agree, the new color dodge effect is blech. I'm rather interested to see what the new layer modes in the next version will be like... not that I can say that there will be any, but, uh, if there were, I'd be really interested to see them.

we've been over and over this one...in order for color dodge to act in 6.0 as it did in 5.5, the background for the dodge layer must be black

yup, you can still acheive the same effect, just takes a slightly different approach.

Gah. Why'd they go and do that? I live and breathe colour dodge!! =)

It still acts weird even if you make the layer's background black. The dodged pixels aren't "dynamic"... as the opacity changes, they just fade out rather than the shape's bright area shrinking nicely before going out.

Maybe I'm just used to PSP. Sigh.

if you want to fade it the original way, use hue-saturation (CTRL-U) and make it darker. Or fill with black and fade it.

I hope in version 6.5 or something, they give you an option to use the old or new colour dodging method. That would seem to make more sense. PS6 is a whole lot of fixes for something that isn't broken..
