I just want to try to make some art with the grunge technique, but I dont have done something with that before, so I was wondering if someone could give me some advice or some links to some tutorials to make some 'grunge art'...

I know you need some fonts and brushes are there any fonts that are used a lot for this technique!? Thanks in advance...

Pearl Jam!!

heh heh ... try Chank's free fonts, there are a few that fall under the category of grunge there.

Here is a tip, I remember in school my instructor was telling us about a last minute project she had picked up - the client wanted a "grunge/gen-x look" for a brochure. She used a lot of green and purple (to fulfill the gen-x requirement she said) and for the "grunge" effect, she said she zoomed in ~200 - 500% and degraded the edges of things with the eraser tool w/rough brushes. She said it took a long time but was worth it. ( she was trying to convince us to never rely on filters - she rocked!)

Good luck and stay away from flannel!

I mean things like this [the borders, you can see the fonts etc]...

This is a example of a tut I just found of an grunge brush:

I didnt mean some special grunge fonts, but those fonts they use a lot... uhmmm... those with a lot of curves, those 'caligraphy [Dont know if I wrote that right] fonts'...

[edit] I found some good grunge brushes on www.digitexturia.com too, just wanted to let you all no [/edit]

Your best bet for tracking down the elusive and unique 'grunge trend' would be DBM, there are 3 mentions of 'grunge' techniques on the first page, here ya go

I found a cool tutorial awhile back about this. It's a little out of the ordinary, but perhaps it will get you going in the right direction....

On a different note, here is a pretty cool tutorial from NeoFrog.. I have used it before... looks good if you play around with it...

Well, I played around with this grunge thing today. Inspirated by Faithless - Tarantula and this thread I came up with this spider after some hours.

This dirty look isn't my style, I'm more that abstract_wannabe_guy But it was fun playin around. What do you think?

I don't see what "Steve's Displace Tutorial" has to do with grunge...

I don't see what 'grunge' has to do with the style being shown either (or with any style of music )....but hey....

I agree, I'd call it the "dirty" technique or the "messy scribble" technique... still, you're not going to get anything like that using displace.

HS: I was refering to this page in particular. When steve was talking about how Dark Garden used the displace filter in this image:

I played with it and managed not to use displace either, I think Juxt interactive made it 'popular' now its trendy.
