I'm having trouble cleaning up areas of a picture I am working on.
I've tried a lot of tools and methods, but none of them seem to work.
If someone could give me some ideas, or even do it for me, i'd REALLY appreciate it.
here's the picture

ME TOO!!!!!!!!
Welcome to the Asylum! STUFF
You know, don't take any pill, just give them to me, i'll find the one who's giving those addictive stuff....

BTW, Use the stract tool in PS 6, you know, try to make a green line shaping the figure to extract, it doesn't have to be 'exaclty' but cover part of the shape and part of the background to delete, and then fill it with the bucket (well, you beter practice a lot) and that's it...
Another thing to do is to use quick mask and shape your pic with a soft brush, fill your shape in Quick mask and then exit quick mask, you'll have a nice selection, all the options are bored, but if you want something good, takes time

And your pic is not showing, is geocities, you cannot post a link to an image from geocities...

Wellcome, and DO NOT MESS WITH THE DOG!

on a side note, i feel sorry for that school......

there are several methods. personally i would not use the extract tool.

i think the best alternative is the use of layer masks. add a layer mask the picture and use the pen tool to mask the hard-edged areas. the softer-edged stuff, like hair, is alot harder to deal with, but it can be done with the brush tools if you have the time and patience. as far as i know, there aren't any quick and easy methods that give good results. its just a matter of patience.

The vast majority of that pic can be cleaned up by hand.

Done with a Layer Mask with a blue background underneath.
I started with one brush:
Diameter: 9
Hardness: 90% (usually between 80% - 95%)
Spacing: 5% (or less)

That took care of most of it without much fuss. Then I used another brush like the above, but with a diameter of 3. The second brush took care of the little corners that the 9 diameter brush couldn't get to.

Doing whispies are tough. Quick Mask, Alpha Channels, Replace Colour, and Curves -- those are my main tools for doing such things. Can be quite the process. The part that really sucks is that it's different everytime. I working on a tut for this, but I still have to get BoL out of the way.

(DL-44, am I going to have to e-mail you the updates again?)

Those are the most horrible cheerleaders I have ever seen.

Can you mask the faces too?
