How do a fill space with a pattern...and not the predefined patterns, but one of my own.

You can either save your own texture/pattern file. That would be a photoshop greyscale file. Or maybe I'm misunderstanding your question there.

What version of Photoshop are you using? The handling of patterns in ver 6 is a little different from before.

In ver. 5 you select your pattern, and then you go under file and choose "define pattern".
Then you select the area you want to have filled, go under file and select fill, and choose to use pattern.

I don't have ver 6 here, so I am not sure how it works there. But I think that you do the first step the same way, and then that pattern will end up among the pattern that are already defined.

I use version 6. I am a newbie I might add. Although not new to graphic programs
