http://www.aravenwood.free-online.co.uk/Nov99/downloads/the_goodies/tutorials/tutorial_lasers.htm
. http://www.bluetemptation.com/lia/tutorial.html (This is an action but analyzing actions is a great way to learn)

.
If you don't like those, just do what I did and run a search on Google for something like "laser photoshop tutorial" or "lightsaber photoshop tutorial."

Have fun!

Try putting another layer on top of that laser and play with the blend modes. Try overlay and color dodge.

Here's a little something I cooked up for lasers:

I just used a Linear Gradient, set for the foreground color and to go from 0% Opacity to 100% in the middle and back to 0% again. Then, you can move the transparency "midpoints" to control how 'coherent' your lasers are. By changing how far you drag the mouse, you change the thickness of the beam. I have a gradient named "Lasers" saved just for this effect. It seems much simpler than using a marquee/blur/etc. What do you think?

(Edit: BTW, this same effect, set on Radial Gradient, works well for halos and the like. It's a lot of fun to experiment with!)

There are a lot of strange people in the world. I should know; I'm three of them...
