lets say i have this well drawn and edited picture of 2 links of a chain, could i use that picture to fill a path?

for example, would i be able to use a external picture to create a frame to a image?

if im not making myself clear, i`ll try to edit this post tomorrow when my head isnt this jammed ;oP

Yours in brief moment of idiotism

Ummm, you can turn a selection into a path if that's what you're talking about. Select your 2 links and then goto your Paths palette and click the "Make work path from selection" button.

Do you mean taking an image (for example, a star), then making a path (for example, an S-shape), then stroking the path so it looks like a bunch of stars connected? That can be done. First, make a brush out of the image, then set the spacing of the brush to something big (150%, for instance), then, with the path selected, stroke it using that brush.

Now, if you want it to twist and turn accordingly to the curvature of the path (as a real chain would, for instance), then, at least with PS6, you can't do it. You will need a vector package, like Xara, CorelDraw, or Illustrator.

I don't know if PS7's new engine allows for the brush to twist as it strokes a path, someone with access to it might be more help.

If i understand you correctly, Yes, and no.
No, you can`t stroke a path with an image.
Yes you can frame an image with an *external * image. You`ll need to drag your links image into the same document as the image to be framed. ( Resize links and canvas as needed )
Then place the links image at one of the corners, aligned with the edge, hold CTRL+ALT and drag the links down. (makes a copy on a new layer. Repeat as needed. When you get to a corner, duplicate again, CTRL+T , rotate into new direction, and so on.
If that`s not what you meant, nevermind.
