SOmetimes when I open an image with the CMYK-color mode
it says: (CMYK#) in the title-bar of the image. What does the "#"
stand for?

I also have some images labeled (RGB*) Same thing there..
The "*" ?


By the way, I read something interesting on a website:
"The artist is nothing without the gift, but the gift is nothing without work..."

This has to do with your color calibration and color profile in the document.

# means that the document doesn't have a color profile.

* means that it has a color profile that is different from the one you currently have set as your default working profile.

To fix that, you need to go into the mode menu and either assign a color profile or convert to the current profile if you want to use your default color calibration.

That's pretty common, not something to worry about. Basically, if you have color calibrated your system with a custom profile... it will NEVER match the profile listed with other images that you have A. saved with your profile or B. already converted to your profile. Basically, Photoshop is trying to help you realize that you are working on a document that was created with different color and allows you to set it to your color calibration depending on your output needs. Whenver you open a file from another designer or you recalibrate your system and try to open a document based in your old color space you will get that warning. If you are working, say in pre-press and you're using a common built-in color space such as Adobe 1998 you could avoid those warnings (and possible color shifts) if you receive your items in that profile. In the end, dealing with color is one of the incomparable joys of working in graphic design. heh.

Hee... working with color still have some question-marks.
I usually convert my images to "Euroscale" when I open them since
that's the color-scheme most print office use in Europe and I do alot
of pre-press-work.

It means Cyan, Magnita, Yellow, and Black (CMYB) oh wait that's diffrent isn't it?

Well that one is some kinda color profiling for printers that print in Cyan, Magnita, Yellow, and Black, all turned at a slightly diffrent angle.

CMYK does stand for Cyan/Magenta/Yellow/blacK

The angle rotation referred to is halftone printing. Traditionally each halftone screen is physically rotated specific amounts so that each color shows through the screen and blends with the next.
