I figure I'll continue posting works in progress until it becomes contagious.
Decided to grab the shaving mirror for a bit...
15 minute sketch to start with.

I'm working at the size shown here.
Once again... I'm not looking to make this into a week long project...
and I'm not solely working on this image at the moment.
This thread might get a little heavy on the 56k'ers like myself...
but consider this a fair warning right now.

okie... off to paint.

yea izz.
been wearin' glasses mmm.... mebbe 6 years or so.

update with some colour daubs.
been usin' about a 19px brush......'bout 60% opacity and working things over.
practicing a few things here and there...
not really painting within my 'usual' methods.
opening up to ideas i should have started on a long while back.
trying to use my eyes a little more...
and trying to keep in mind the reason i started all this.

comments, critiques n' such are welcome along the way, as usual.

ocean ripples?... *sigh*

still plugging away every now and again.
Added some meat to it... flesh here and there...
Then I tried to use a 50px brush on this...
Used it at about 30% opacity... picked up the tones along the transitions.
Worked okay for a while.
After I daubed along the transitions... I snagged the new "between" tone.. and repeated as nessecary.
Kept at that for a while.
Knocked it down to a 25px brush... repeated.
Then dropped down to a 13px to do some adjustments here and there.

I'm fairly pleased with progression.
I've certainly found out that originally sketching in the glasses and now trying to work around them has proved difficult.
I'll have to pay more attention to that area in the coming time of working on this.
I've also gone a tad dark with the lips... .... I hadn't really noticed till now.

might just sit back and look at this for a while before proceeding.

sorry... i been in and out all day... you look a bit sickly. your forehead looks a bit short.

hmm.... I dunt have your face to look at... but i would move the eyes and nose down a bit. Ears need to go down a bit and then maybe a little more.

all I say is from his perspective. His right... and His left.

Right eye... falling of the right side of your face... needs to be a little closer to the center.

How can you paint at that angle?

YouR Left ear is growing out of the back of you head... and it is placed too far up.

the right side of your jaw is bigger than the left side.

ya probably can see all that... but heres for a post.

I like the texture you are giving it.... but it still lacks any depth. Your lips are rather harsh... They need to blend into the face a bit more... but ya still workin it so no worries there.

no worries izz....
glad you stopped back to say a few things.

I had flipped it up to do some touches...
saw yer post.... sat back and looked at it again...
and then took another look in the mirror and plugged away a tad more...

I paint at that angle quite a bit actually.
I dunno why.
Just seems natural somehow.
been known to give me a crick in mah neck from time to time tho. heh.

Cheers again for the wordage, izz.

sounds a bit cliché but... no depth, flat. The yellow light is cool, I see what you're trying to do there but it ain't makin it right now, it's not consistent enough over the whole haid.

Depth will make it look less like DG and more like you. I wanna see your skull man, you're a fairly thin guy, this guy looks a bit beef-cakey. Gimme dramatic shadows and highlights.

Yes...DG has no depth.

~smirk~

Jason's got the goods though..definitely calling for some shadow and shape. Tone the light down..but I love the colours.

Gettin' tired at this point.
Movin' at a snail's pace...

I think I'll be done with this for the evening and pick it back up tomorrow.

Shaping up quite nice =)

One recommendation I would make is to try to keep the integrity of the brush strokes. You've got a relatively impressionistic vibe going, and I persoanlly would love to see that played up a little more

Lucid - nope. =)

DL - the same thought crossed my mind. it's got a good feel to it in this manner. I'm not positive where I'll go with my last few hours of work on it.
Might smooth it over... might pick up more strokes along the way.
We'll see.

here's the current progression.

just adding little bits here and there.
