Ok, the next Speed Painting topic is "Vikings." That includes anything relating to Norwegian(ish) and Scandanavian(ish) culture around 750 - 1050 (A.D.). So have fun. (Think Hagar )

---

1. You have approximately 30 minutes (try to limit differences by 10 mins, give or take) to do a sketch/painting/model, digital or traditional of the supplied topic.
2. Time dedicated to scanning, uploading, saving, etc, is NOT counted towards the time it takes you to do your entry. Just the time you spent creating it.
3. You can submit as many entries as you want.
4. Much like the monthly sig competitions, the previous winner decides the next topic and the next winner of said topic.
5. Speed painting topics will last for approximately a week.
6. Have fun! Obviously there's no way to tell how long you *actually* spent making the image, so this thing runs on an honor system.

---

Go. Paint!

Here's my viking. I know he's basically hideous but I'll keep plugging away. Tough topic, CB. I can picture lots of manly vikings in my mind but I'll be damned if I can get what's in my head onto the screen. I wish someone would choose flowers

Sorry about that, really. Anyways, I could extend the time to ~60 or 70 minutes, if thats okay with everyone for this time.

Or should this topic just be forgotten, and a winner picked. If it's that hard, then I'm sorry. ;(

cfb: Just stick with it for a bit longer - some topics aren't going to take off for various reasons so don't worry too much about it

CFB - don't worry about it!

It's no harder than most other topics...and it's a good one.

30 minutes makes some things a little tougher, but that's kind of the point.

I'll be back in a bit with something (hopefully).

And remember everyone - it doesn't ahve to be a finished work!

Hey CB, no it's not that hard - I was just whining a little, all in fun Vikings are a bit more difficult than flowers but that's ok as it forces us to use our imagination.

CFB I also think it's an excellent topic but I have been so busy that the only thing I get done is thoughts in my head. Hold out cause I really want to get one or two posted. 2 days tops!!!

What's the point of posting 5 minutes of work? Use your 30 minutes and do more.

Shame...this was a good topic, I just didn't get a chance to do much with it.

On a semi-related note, how about an amendment to the rules?
IE: at the discretion of the topic chooser, if the topic is a more complex one (such as this one, and my medieval fantasy one) the time-limit can be upped to say, an hour.

30 minutes is great for many of these, but once in a while there's one that deserves more time.

I absolutely agree. An hour give or take a few would be a perfect solution to difficult or complex topics like this.

All in favor say I.

So I shouldn't close the topic, and up the time to 1 hour ans see what happens? I had a pretty cool idea, but I never got around to finishing it. So, should I leave the topic open and ammend the rules to 1 hour for this one?

I have seen speed painting comps where people paint something really fast, and then say it took 20 mins.. or 50 mins... or such.... with no real strict limitations.

Like Sijuns(?) and Eatpoo's speed paintings. The paintings can be massive and take hours to complete, but they were done quickly. Obviously an ammendmant to the rules is in order, but just what is it.

I was also thinking, that maybe a topic could be an emotion or a feeling. When I was trying to decide one what topic, I was considering a topic similar to "anger," although not worded like that. The topic would be more abstract paintings with the intent of evoking anger from a person.

I like having a time limit, I just think it needs to be different for different themes.

I think it's probably fine to pick someone from what we've got here, and move on with all this in mind.

(don't necessarily have to close this one, just because we're moving on though )

This was a frustrating one to decide on, as there were a couple of entries that I weighted as fairly equal, but, overall, I had to say that I like Amerasu's the best. DL-44's came in a close second, but I think that this is a matter of personal taste.

So good job all, sorry for a dificult topic, and have fun!
