Nice Michael. Definately adds a degree of seperation from the stor troopers. {{edit - needs a belly button though!!}}

I am all for more 3D shading, not sure how difficult to implement it may be....but I think it'd be worth the effort.

I'd also like to add that I am approximately 6 feet tall. My head is approximately 9 inches tall. That would make my head 1/8 of my total height (insider - hold a ruler to your head! Imagine your head that big? ouch....).

The average proportion is between 7 and a half and 8 heads' height for an adult male.

We obviously need a much more exagerated proportion, so it really doesn't matter much

It came out more like an interpolation of the two.. At first I went for a more realistic approach, but with this stance and style there's no way to add a more curved look without f'ing it up.

mahjqa: Nice work - the trick is clearly to use low angles and straight lines and that is really working for me

We are probably going to kick ideas around and pick bits we like from the different ones to produce a finalised version (so it would help if people said what they liked from each one and what they didn't as well as thoughts on imporving things).

So I like the top of mahjqa's head but the lower half is still a little square and Micheal's has a more realistic jaw line.

The lower half of mahjqa's looks really good.

The arms are tricky mahjqa's look good but there is still a pipecleaner look about them and Michael's look more realistic. I'm not sure if there is an easy fix to that although pos. a thickening of the arm in the armpit area is the way to go or making the back slightly wider at that point?

Really nice work from everyone - I'd be interested to hear what other people thought.

Micheal is just preparing a single graphic for all 3 templates so we can compare things a little better:

The second one looks like he has nubs for legs.

nah... looks like he can do some madd squats.... pretty weak on the bench presses though.
Love seein the toes... they need work though. heh... also a little more shading would be nice to add some depth.

I made a few slight modifications by making the chest bigger and taper down to the waist as well as broadening the shoulders.



I don't know if it works or not, but it seems more fleshed out to me now.

Yes indeed this is looking like it is coming along nicely.

The shoulders are too square for our initial test unisex model but I like the chest work - does that last one look just a little too short for that width?

I'm not sure what other people think but having the lighting coming from the top left is more 'conventional' (although I notice the original storTrooper didn't have it like that).

the shoulders are much nicer there.. yes light should be from top-left, everything else is.. why be queer now.. im not sure bout the head shape, its pretty big.. almost like mine but mine isnt that wide, lol.. he looks a little more.. i dunno, it gave a diff vibe there.. id be really interested in seeing this get finished.. just wanted to say keep at it

I do think we need to focus on head size and shape - I prefer head 2 although possibly with the top of the head from 3 and 4. Thoughts?

hey emp, i think 3-4 and the top look all good, i think its the jaw structure on those 2 that is making it a lil iffy, im working on it now.. if any1 cares, i dunno if i'll post or not, depends if it looks liek i made much of a diff when im done..

Great work from everyone there - DG's certainly has a little something that I like (this isn't a pun by the way). One thing though the feet look a little wide - I'd prefer the standard cartoon convention of 4 digits as in number 2. Other than that............

Anyway this is looking great we only want a prototype so we can move on and get the other aspects (clothes, client and server coding) sorted and so I think we should start wrapping this aspect up. Anyone got any other comments?

Remember once we have developed the basic model we can then come back and adapt the template to our needs (heights and builds was mentioned which would be interesting).

[edit: The hands also look a little odd - the one's on 3 and 4 look better. They will usually be poking out and so they need to look 'right' ]

im not tooo sure the knees look entirely.. whatever they look like ocean ripples now, and i know the indents make sense when i look at my knees but in the pixel art realm here.. ahh who knows.. wont matter much with pants on, what about shorts tho, hrmm..

OK I think we have a great selection here unless anyone has any other ideas/thoughts/versions to throw in I'd suggest shutting this thread down and opening up one where we pick the one we are going to use for the prototype so we can move the other aspects of this along.

Hmmm...has anyone considered the fact, that the PixelPerson template is to be used for both sexes? Or are we going to be using two templates, one for a man, one for a woman? Suggestions? Comments?

BTW - that head does look awefully familiar...hmmm....

WS: Yes to avoid complications we were concentrating on the male prototype as developing the 2 sexes at the same time could have lead to the two designs diverging and looking odd. So we were waiting until the male one was done and then we'd tweak that into the female.

I was also trying not to think about male -> female sex change operations in too much detail
