I kind of liked the idea of flowers also, and I'm just in a flowery mood . I almost picked lanscapes though! I think 30 minutes should be enough but are there any other time limit suggestions? Just say so and I'll consider it.

1. You have approximately 30 minutes (try to limit differences by 10 mins, give or take) to do a sketch/painting/model, digital or traditional of the supplied topic.
2. Time dedicated to scanning, uploading, saving, etc, is NOT counted towards the time it takes you to do your entry. Just the time you spent creating it.
3. You can submit as many entries as you want.
4. Much like the monthly sig competitions, the previous winner decides the next topic and the next winner of said topic.
5. Speed painting topics will last for approximately a week.
6. Have fun! Obviously there's no way to tell how long you *actually* spent making the image, so this thing runs on an honor system.

A quickie at 10 mins. I tried using Painter Classic (comes with the Wacom) .. one of their impressionist brushes. This is an appalling and ugly knock-off of an impressionist painting - I know this

Used a photo ref for this one.

I wanted to address this since I said exactly the same thing about someone's work (I think it was DL-44) when these Speed Painting threads first started to appear. I initially had one hell of a time just trying to get whatever I started even halfway shaded in under 30 minutes. The only thing that cured me was practice. I paint all the time, often. I'm starting to see some improvement... small... but it's there and it's encouragement. I don't paint like DarkGarden or Boris Vallejo but one day I hope to

Amerasu, you've been making great gains I'd say, and giving out some solid advice. It's really nice to see. If I could give any advice at all here, it would be that you shouldn't be afraid of contrast and colour depth...and that white backgrounds make for rough times differentiating that contrast. Your flowers are beautiful...soft...nice. They lack some depth, but I think that might be partially due to that white background tendency. Find a nice light grey and you'll get a touch more confident with your contrasts.

That said, I think you've got the right attitude, and some great speed paintings to back it up. Keep going and showing.

Why does showing you the rules (that you made) make me a hypocrite Insider? You asked if it was a recycle when obviously it wasn't since there has never been a speed painting topic here at the Asylum that it would have fit into. He openly admitted to posting it in another forum but since that wasn't against your rules either, what's the big deal? How much more of an explanation do you need?

Besides, who cares if the painting was done previously? It met all of the rules that you set for this competition. Since you're the person judging, if you don't like that he didn't do the painting this week, don't vote for it.

Otherwise, shut your gob and enjoy a very nice painting of a calla lily.

You don't at all find that rude or condescending? After you fucking sat and in a way defended me after DG troll flamed me? You just fucking did the same thing and it was absolutely uncalled for. I asked because, here at the asylum (and I'm sure as you know) we do intend to do things in different methods, so I thought it would be appropriate to hear from the masters on whether or not recycles should be included to the elligable to win list...

Fucker.

My reply was a bit curt and if that offends you, well, too bad. My reply was in no way a troll or a flame. Both of your subsequent replies have been flames. I did not curse at you, I did not belittle you, I just pointed out that your own rules mention nothing about recycled paintings.

The brusque nature of my reply was due to the fact that I become annoyed with your need to constantly post an exhorbitant amount of silly one-liners in large numbers of threads here at the Asylum. Many of us get tired of this. Some of us have more tolerance for it than others. It happens that on this day you passed my tolerance level. I don't know what kind of sycophantic need you fulfill by posting the endless drivel that seems to drive you, but don't expect the rest of us to always just sit back ignore it.

Now, can we get back to the point of this thread or do you have some more drivel you need to make public?

Ok, here is how I am going to judge recycles.

If synax's beautiful lilly didn't win in Sijun, then it is elligible to win this contest. And if it does, that means it is no longer eligible to win any speed painting threads (of mine). I think that's pretty fair... If anyone disagrees or has suggestions, please state so kindly...

Jesus Insider...you didn't WIN anything last week when you got to be the one to start this..you just were the person chosen to be next. Your paintings were not the best ones out of the thread, they just were there.

Stop trying to make yourself part of something that doesn't exist...stop trying to assume some faux-feeling of authority. You're not part of any Asylum-Elite...you're just some kid who should shut up, learn, and keep painting.

Speed painting isn't a competition at sijun. In fact, there aren't even topics. It's just a massive thread of paintings. Sometimes people post paintings that take 10 minutes, sometimes people post paintings that take 2 hours. It doesn't matter. And if I remember correctly, speed painting at the asylum was not started as a competition either. They were started just to get people to paint. The only reason a 'winner' was choosen was so that somebody would start up a new topic. Anyway, the point of this post is that speed painting isn't a contest. Who cares if someone posts something that they did for another board. Who cares if someone posts something they did in 45 minutes instead of 30. The point of this thread is to get people enthusiastic about painting, and to give people a theme to paint with for practice. Bottom line, don't worry so much about the rules and follow your own advice and go paint.

^^^ Yup yup yup.

It was stated from the beginning that this is in no way a competition, and there is no winner.

A person needs to be selected to pick the next topic, and that is done at the discretion of the person who started this one. People post work relevant to the topic.

And that's *ALL* there is to it.

Now, I suggest you take your own advice Insider, and rather than come back here and jump and down in a temper-tantrum, go and 'just paint'.
