ccidentally posted on the wrong forum a bit ago....photoshop pon, i believe...my bad...here's the post

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
i'm a newbie here, but i have a decent amount of photshop knowledge. i stumbled onto this site by accident, anyway...lemme get to the question...
i'm rendering out some abstract wireframes for an art project and i need to change the color of one of the rendered wireframes in photoshop so that it will fit a color scheme...here's the info: it's an rgb image and i need to use to different hues of grey, one for the background and a darker grey for the wireframe...i also need to know the color code of the grey for the wireframe for printing purposes. so how can i change the color of the wireframe? is there something i'm overlooking? i know that i can't extract it because of all the fine lines, and it's set on a white backround (made transperant to fit on grey background) is there anything that i can do? please help, this project is do soon.
thanks.

sorry about the mix up, it's late

If it's an RGB image, and you're shooting for a specific print color, you'll probably want to convert to CMYK sooner rather than later. Usually, we say work in RGB right until the gun, but if you've got a target process color, ain't no way to get to it without using process.

Hmmm - here's what I wrote in the OTHER thread before I saw you had moved over here ...

Lemme get this straight - you have a plain white background, and a transparent layer containing the wireframe art above that? All that's on the second layer is wireframe art? There's nothing on the second layer but what you want to change the color of?
Does the wire frame art need to turn a solid color? Just a different solid color from what it is now? What color is it now? Let's assume it's black, and needs to be a dark gray, a dark gray you need to know the values of for printing. I think the easiest, fastest way would be to make a third layer above the wireframe art, fill that layer with whatever gray the color scheme specifies, and set the blend mode to "lighten", which will then ignore the white.
Even if it's a flattened file to begin with, this will work so long as the background color is lighter than the new fill color and the wireframe art is darker.
Let me know if I failed to grasp something about your problem.

If I am reading this right you are using a 3D program to generate the wireframe?

Another twist would be to export the wireframe as a DXF file, or AI, which most 3Dprograms
are capable of doing, import into Adobe Illustrator, which you can tweak till your hearts content
changing the line colour, stroke width, fill etc,
and will be much better for printing purposes also.
Tricky part is the view that will be exported....most default views for dxf export is
top view, so you need to pay attention to the view you want to display.

Here's a quick example as to what I am thinking.
You have the advantage of the wireframe being vector and resolution independent for crisp lines.

wow!thank you for all the advice....i think steve may be on the right track as to what i need to do and where i am right now. the wireframe has a solid white background. there is a background that i'm using and it's a solid grey (light grey, to be exact), i need the wirframe, which is currently rendered in a blue, to be dark grey. so, what i'll try is making a new layer, filling it with a specific grey, and then using the blend too to lighten. i really got stressed out as this is for a magazine some friends and i are doing. lemme see if i can post a sample of what i'm doing...i don't know ubb to well, so bear with me....

well, this is it, except for the color change and on layer that contains the pixelated blocks. i guess it's sort of constructivist or minimalistic type stuff. again, thank you for your help. i really think i'll enjoy being part of this forum. you gus are super nice for all the options you provided me. if one doesn't work,i'll try all of 'em.
