Hi Fig.
I'd say that you play well...
Looks really good!
Hhowever, to me the use of flash for the portfolio feels like overkill, I got a pretty bad dl-time actually.
Plus, you've got a good flash example in the portfolio.

All in all, yup, no flame from me other on dl-time

chris, chris, chris.

you know how i feel about flash...especially poorly-used, extreme load-time, badly-executed flash.

fortunately, none of those things are applicable to this project. i like it. it's clean, it's vaguely unique, and it conveys what it is that you're trying to get at. however, i do have to agree to an extent with dms concerning whether or not flash need be used solely in a portfolio. i just recently completed a portfolio flash, and it was nothing more than a cleverly used portal; all the links past the third drill brought up a new window with htmlization. i'm a big fan of that; makes it more interrelated, more real-estate usage...big fan of that.

in any event, i like it.

Thanks for the props guys, and some good points. Dan, I'm not sure why you got the dload time you got because the entire piece isn't more than 100k, I can check the file at home for the exact number. Might be havnig some server probs. I do agree (to an extent) the Flash isn't necessarily needed for a portfolio piece, but at the same time a portfolio is a chance for the designer to show what they can do and show-off a bit. For the purpose of capturing someone's attention a little motion goes a long way. The one actual relevant factor is that I was going for a Flash job with this piece so I wanted to show a bit of what I could do with it. Considering I'm ona contract right now I'd say it worked...

Looks nice to me.

100k IS pretty big, I think, especially for a website like this that does not have that much content. There are no so many pictures in it, so I do think you would be able to get it a little smaller.

My biggest complaint would be that you have your resume as a word file!
You really should try to make a pdf of it instead. As it is now, the visitor needs to have the right programs to even see your resume, and from what I understand .doc files can even be a security hazard as they might contain macro-virii. I am sure yours don't, but it still might keep potential customers/employees from downloading it.

And maybe three items is a little too little, even for a personal portfolio? I am not sure...

Looks good though!

well done,
i'm definitely not a fan of all flash sites but i'd tip my hat to you if i had one. very clean, loaded fast for me (but i'm on a shared t1). preloadeder to launch me button animation is nifty but i'd lose it and just go straight to the site. i'd mighta made the portfolio peices a little easier to identify as interactivity...other than that well done...100k is big...i'm working on my new site and i'm trying to keep everything below 15k at the very most....of course i'm going for semi-minimalist...

Yes, I like it as well...
I'm on 56k... prolly connecting at roughly 38k or so however.... the d/l is no problem. 100k is not that much.
Good overall look.
Direct and to the point.

Anally retentive stuff that you need not pay attention to: I don't like the pre-loaders that skip in 20% intervals like that.

Good points everybody, though some of them are a bit justifiable. The site itself was put up as a kind of mini-portfolio for a few jobs I applied for, and as such the resume is intentionally a doc for the benefit of recruiters/HR folks. I didn't go to a ton of trouble to optimize it (assuming higher bandwidth connections) or to implement a smaller-percentage preloader (checked and it's 94k). It's by no means complete enough to be a full portfolio site (no argument there) and it should be better optimized, but in this case it did serve it's purpose. Thanks all.

twItch^, I think it would be more accurate to say that it served it's purpose faster than expected so change wasn't needed I'm definitely taking into consideration all comments, though at this point any variants on this will probably be a more complete version of my portfolio...

Thanks bunchapixels, that's all kind of evolving so we're not quite sure where it's going to end up. Glad you like the image though.
