Hey guy's I haven't posted much lately 'cause I've been doing new pages again for me. I'd like you to check these http://koti.mbnet.fi/~powder/www.jussitarvainen.com/base.html out and tell me what you think. There's nothing else than lay out for now but when I'll finish it then I'll add the stuff there. Any ideas and critics are more than welcome!!!

I remember looking at some of your work a while back.
I'm assuming you are intending to "Flash" this in? Or is this exactly what you plan on coming up?
The top blue bar is a bit bland.... but on the other hand, if you added in a grid effect or something, it may be too cluttered...
I was thinking that the picture in the "backround" could taper in on the right side... not all the way to the blue bar, but in a little bit and then parallel the blue all the way to the right.
The pic you are using for the "art" section doesn't exactly "jive" with the others...

All in all... I do like it. Good crop on the backround pic.... although... maybe on the left side... have it fade in from black and get rid of some of that hair.

i'm sorry, i don't mean to be rude, but just how many of these sites need exist? are 45 degree angles that intriguing to people? has anyone ever thought to use a 30 degree angle? or a 12? why 45? gray, blue and yellows? no shit. that's unique.

twitch.. In case you didn't notice, 45 degrees = no jaggies, 30 degrees = more jaggies 12 degrees=way more jaggies. And just because there are a lot of sites out there that use 45 deg angles, doesn't mean people should stop using them, christ, you could say the same thing about drop shadows or white backgrounds. And the colors go together well, we call them complementary colors, with a touch of grey which is a nice neutral base. Basic color theory man! It drives me nuts when people say things like that!!! >pops a 45 degree angle grey, blue, and yellow pill<

Ok, I feel better now. About the site... for a layout, it looks great. Very clean and balanced, it flows from top to bottom. Good use of space and pattern.

well.... i WOULD say that about drop shadows and white backgrounds. not using them is quite a refreshing change. drop shadows can tend to look cheap, white backgrounds arent so retina friendly.

Well hey thanks guys. I've been rambling around with those colors but haven't got anything good. Iif I can't come up with any better I'll leave it like this and add some more grafix!

Oh and I'm Jussi Tarvainen... I couldn't come up with any good design name so I had to name the site as my own name

Actually I don't. I want that low res users can also view the site but the high res guys have some more to enjoy(need to make the graf wider). I thought I'd add some background in the grey area... but if you have any sugestion to that please let me know!

I like it a lot....here comes the criticism....I don't much care for the horizontal tiling of your image....it shows up on the right hand side of my browser and kinda ruins the effect of the site....

gzus Twitch just cuz everyone hear uses Photoshop should we quit using that as well????

The site itself isn't bad, though not incredibly innovative. It's at least clean, which is more than I can say for a lot of sites these days. The 45s are a bit overdone these days though, and IMO the tech-ish text on the upper left is pretty much unreadable. I'd say to play with the spatial relationships in the page a bit more, it starts out rather...empty. Hope that helps...

Nice work nt. Looks real nice. Perhaps add some content so we can see what your going to do with it eh? Try adding some roll overs and such also.

FWIW: I like the 45 deg. angles.

I've done quite a bit progress with the pages but I have some major problems with my own computer which doesn't have internet so I'll add them ASAP!

twitch...I'm running a 3DLABS Oxygen GVX210 video card with dual monitor jacks allowing me to run a "pear" of monitors side by side at 1280x1024 thus giving me a combined res of 2560x1024...

Okay -

You need some text swap or something for when you mouseover the little images. Maybe something in the upper right "yellow" area? I'd also kill the scrollbar track using something like
<style>body {overflow: hidden}</style>

Other than that, I really like it. Kinda cool....

Okay, so I congratulate the members of the Ozone Asylum for being so good at falling apart so quickly when it comes to discussing a topic.

Twitch - Stop pretending that every design has to be unique.
Drakkor - Don't be an idiot. Jagged edges can be eliminated on anything. Stop assuming that ease of creation=better design. Simply put, that's not it.

nt - Now for the critique. I like your style. It's not completely unique, as Twitch so graciously pointed out. It is, however, clean, quick on the load balance, and easy to the eyes. I'd drop out a bit of the gray space, not only because it doesn't complement the colors at all, but because it will always look empty, even if you fill it with text. Saturate some sort of color into that, not too much, but enough to give a hint of interest. Say, a washed-out green or red. Just something to fill up more area. Other than that, I look forward to seeing more iterations.
