Preserved Topic: Should I continue with this concept??? (Page 1 of 1)

Hi, quite a few years ago I had a personal site...Here. Since then I don't utilize earthlink as my ISP, but for some reason they still keep my site up.

Anyways, I just wanted a critique as I am considering going with the same style with another site...

Not bad for a splash, i'm not a fan of splash pages but yours loaded quickly and looked good (cept for the border on the upper left where the galaxy got cut off)...the navigation i'm not so keen on though...it looks good and all but it takes my eyes a second or three to find it and when they do it bugs the fuck out of them for some reason...could be my monitor refreshing that is getting to my head though...

anyway the concept:

i think it looks a little too much like a personal page to be offering web design services out of...the copy and the button names have the whole microsoft "My" whatever feel...or is it mcdonalds...whatever, my point is that for a portfolio its too cozy doesn't look sharp/cutting edge/ professional enough compared to the splash page...the white text on the splash helps maintain a clean look or something (?)...yeah...and stuff...

I like it. Nice and simple and to the point. It loads fast too!

How about some simple mouseovers to liven it up a bit? Those buttons look like they should slide along the red bars. Maybe something along that line?

Lose that blur on the navigation buttons. Its really unneccessary and makes them tough to read.

I like the red image on your splash page alot. Being a chemistry geek it reminds me of my organic chem classes. Wheee! I would love to see that incorporated into your main page.

Cool, thanks guys. Unfortunatly I haven't had access to the earthlink ftp for 3 years, so there will be no updating that page, but I was planning on using the style for my new personal page. Of course I've come a long way in the last 3 years, so hopefully it will be an improvement
