ive got another quick sketch here, compare to the other one, tell me if either look promising, and ill love you forever. perhaps.

well, this is how i spent the last 2 or so hours at work.
obviously, tis is very early stages, but i felt like posting it up before i clocked off.
now, its your job to tell me how much of a waste of time those 2 hours were.
what can i say - its been a while.

Well...
The top blue seems..... detatched...... er.... maybe it is. It's there.... but it it doesn't flow at all.
I'd like to see a white outline around 'echo' I think.... just to see what it looks like.
Is there a different line thickness on the black border lines?
The orange on the light grey nearly unreadable.
It reminds me of a puzzle that's got pieces in the wrong spots.

hmm kinda reminds me of one of my favorite abstract painters, Pieter Cornelis Mondriaan


you could probably salvage what you've got if you patterned it closely to Mondriaan's style and copped an "abstract design attitude"

Oh, my friend, please tell me you're not asking me to comment on five block colors and five rectangles....

Uh, I agree w/ twitch. This is just straight corporate design. It works fine, but the test will come with useability once the whole site is layed out, and we can see how intuitive the navigation is.

The yellow text on the light grey is kind of hard to see. The downloads may not be best next to contact information. Probably fits better on the left. Maybe some subtle drop shadows to give a layered effect to the shapes? Finish it up then we can really tear it apart.

eh, so maybe i shouldve gotten the design to something nearing completion before i posted... sue me.

oh and jiblet - thanx for the quick nav analysis.
and yes, 'downloads' DOES belong on the left. well spotted. it was on its way down there.
and twitch - are you saying you would have difficulty finding something to comment on with that little? i thought the colors alone couldve kept you busy for a while...
oh well, off to the drawing board!
ps - future posters - if in doubt of what to say, you can simply select:

a) um, how do i put this nicely - start over.
b) got potential. eventually. work at it, it could go somewhere.
c) woah baby. that's real pretty like. polish it, and its off to the louvre with this one.

i know these arent very developed concepts, but that's really all i have time for - they want us to give a presentation of different site design concepts, and today's my last day (had all of 1.5 days!).
most annoying thing is, we dont even know what logo/color scheme they have chosen.

totally dig the logo in the second one, much better. Really takes the meaning of "echo" and throws it into graphical form...which is good.

Other than that, another fine, dandy, whatever, business site.

that sucks.
that logo is not only a shocking theft (well, basically a similar icon exists in aust.), its totally temporary.
these corporate wankers have a fantastical new name for this new company, but we arent allowed to use it on any displays - it has to remain 'top secret' - always a good idea to keep the name of a new company 'hush hush'. great for maketing.

This is the design iteration I would have chosen. But I think it's too white, and it has a scroller at the bottom. 800x600?

The reason I would have chosen it is becuase it has better ballance than the other two (three, four heh) and there's no orange on light-gray text to decipher.

as for size, i mustnt have reduced the image a tad before posting it up. this is just a gif - the actual site will be resolution friendly, trust me!

Well, instead of over-lapping the ECHO/Direct, (upper-left) maybe separate them or provide more contrast with "Direct" (darker color)? It's a tad hard to read as is.
