If indeed you actually BOUGHT a copy of maya (tho i find that to be unlikely seeing how you wouldn't go BUYING it unless you knew how to use it)....the manuals have tutorials in it that can basically teach you the in's and out's of Maya like no other source. |

I quite agree there with you Skaarjj, anyone in there right mind would want 20+ to throw around especially on Maya or Softimage for that matter.......we can only dream at the moment. |

Well, depending on the version, Auto CAD isn't exactly cheap so maybe Jack does have a few grand burning a hole in his pocket. |

Well, I learned AutoCAD in the CAD lab at school And you can get some versions of Maya and Soft for between $6k and 12k, not that that's a whole lot cheaper... |

The base package of Maya (Maya Complete) only runs about 5-7k. It doesn't have any of the really cool features, though (cloth, etc). |

Actually...the cheapest way to get Maya is to buy maya Builder...which runs around 2k/3k....it doesnt have a render engine..but has most the same features as complete...and costs a LOT less. It is ideal for learning how to use the program for those who just cant afford it. |

Semantics. I don't consider Maya Builder to be 'Maya', per se. It's a package that implements a subset of the functionality of 'real' Maya, primarily for game developers. |
