no admiration for me?! K. The blue links on brown sucks!!!

For real though, the colors could use a serious rethink but the site is tight. You go boy.

You'll be saddened to learn that your scrolling window doesn't work in Opera 5.12 for Windows. Overflow: auto is one of the few CSS2 properties Opera 5.12 doesn't support, which is too bad, because it's pretty handy.

Opera 6 (win) does a variation on the theme of 5.12. Netscape 6.2 doesn't like it much either. Looks great in IE6 though. (And of course there's no sense in even trying Netscape 4.)

Opera and NS both have issues with the boxes in the center column. Opera begins them halfway across the left column and terminates them okay. Netscape does just the opposite. I can mail you screen shots if you like.

<edit>I didn't examine your code so I'm not sure how you're doing the scrolling box. <iframe> works reliably in all three browsers.</edit>

Validator points out several div errors, interprets <grin> as an opening tag, complaining later that it's not closed. Try &amp;lt;grin&amp;gt; instead.

Opera and NS are much less forgiving of invalid markup than IE. Before messing with the CSS, get the markup validating. It may help. If it doesn't, at least you can rule it out as the cause.

Sure I got admiration for ya JK! Just didn't have a URI and didn't want to leave yours without a link to.

Blue links on brown? Gray and blue? Are you sure you're looking at my site? Let me check the URI I gave ya...nope, it's ok. Hmmm, I suspect browser interference here cause in my browser (IE6) I have a light greenish-orangy active and black visited. Under Tool/Internet Options/Colors/links (colors) I see "use windows colors" and under (links) the colors I described above.

It's unfortunate that there seems to be...oh, wait, I know. the colors are defaulting to whatever yours are because I didn't define them in the CSS. I'll go do that. thanks!

I like it but there is only one thing that bothers me, that is how things don't line up horizontally. There doesn't seem to be a good flow to the page. Know what I mean? I'm not sure I like that blue for the text and the scrollbar either. The other colors work well together though.

You can also define link colors in the <body> tag, as <body link="#123456" vlink="#123456" alink="#123456">. That'll whip NS4 into line, if NS4 is a concern for you.

If you din't like the colors, you weren't alone. I had forgotten to define the links in the CSS. d'oh!

check it now

I ditched the brown. I had never seen a brown site and thought I could
live with it but...Let me know what you think, K?

C:\ - I set the layout off balance on purpose, heh. didn't want a static looking page. Hope it looks better to ya now!

Ooh, things are just *so* broken in IE5.x for the macintosh! I'll nip over to the PC and see what it looks like there...

Hmm, it seems that the width on the main content window went much wider than you might have wanted. Seems to me this problem occured for me somewhere along the way, and I ended up having to make sure I set the 'clip' properties for the offending section. I'll look this over a bit more tomorrow and see what I can find for you, but this is a good hint at least!

Allewyn: Some nice changes from the last time I saw this site , Just some pointers though:-

1) The scroll bar colour (Centre text box), why blue nothing else is blue why this? Maybe I am just being picky but I would try and make it fit the colours you have.

2) Make your links within the text box open in a blank window (you don't want people to leave you site do you?)

3) Not liking the black text "allewyn's daily working journal", ever thought of making a nice flashy image for you main header then some text thrown in?

I might sound like I' m being picky about colours but that?s my graphics side showing , so just think about colour and what you think might look good and fit in with pages.

Anyway still looks good in terms of layout and things .

I am the only one but I liked the brown background.. with the right shades of yellow as accents it gives the impression of gold.. as true gold is a gradient..not flat brownish yellow colors.. That golden brown and yellow accents was intriguing. The textured background overwhelms the graphics.. try that golden brown, carefully selected yellow accents and a touch of blue.. if you dont use the brown and yellow.. post the # for me please.. I liked it.. it has possibilities but I dont use stuff unless clearly permitted..also don't view sources..lazy maybe..unless it is posted as tutorial.. I havent read your code as I don't know enough to add anything about the code so I have no reason to look at the color #. Must ask...Thanks

DS, sorry to miss your points.
1. the blue scrolly matches the text color in the center window
2. i don't mind people leaving to see excellent sites like those. they may even come back, out of appreciation for my generosity.
i like to think of the web as a place of sharing...
3. the black text is going away in the next incarnation (almost ready)

i'm glad you are picky! if everybody agreed with what i do, i'd never learn anything!

edit: gonna close this thread and open new one because new site is coming...
