This is something that both me and my good firned Luxo_Jr would like to know. How you you achieve caustics (reflected/refracted light that takes on the characteristics of what it just bounced off or passed through) in 3D Studio MAX? This is a big, but important, one.

Any help would be hot.

Not without a 3rd party render engine like Mental Ray or Brazil. I havn't really had a chance to play with MAX 4 too much tho, so I could be mistaken. (Why do new toys always come out when I have no time?). From what I hear at work (we use 5 3D apps), the new MAX doesn't yet have those options. I will ask some of the guys on monday about this tho to confrm it.

Maybe you can fake it with a spotlight and a gel. Have the spotlight project a fake caustic image right behind the glass object. It'll take some work to get it to look right but it can be done.
