ok, so i used this pic 4 some cool rust effects, but someone said that it's not that realistic
that is the reason why i'm asking if someone out here knows hot to make a more realistic one
or even a tut... somewhere...
thanx

R@m is cool. Haven't seen him around in some time. I saw his site once and the rust on this interface is sweeeet. Anybody got a URL?
One of the last things I remember r@m saying was, "Ain't it cute?" -- talking about 3D Transform for a quick coin tut he was working on.
Anyways, Arlechinu, let us know how your rust endevor goes, eh?

After a quick romp through the archives, I came up with this:

Hmm... I think it's defunct.

That`s nice rust, I wish the tuts page was still there.
If they had just killed Gilligan, they`d have been off the island in a week.

the best rust tut ever is to go out and look at a rusty peice of metal.. and get some photos of it.
and yeah .. anyone know what happend to 3dpalette.org? that was a nice site, even if it was very buggy

so here ya go!
I tried and tried until something quite nice (I think) turned up...
check the link below to see what's up with my style of rust
tell me what you think? any tips?
and I know the loading time isn't good, that's due to the size of the pics - I tried to keep them
high quality 4 you to see them...

hey, that looks a heap better, several things you could work on
-the part of the metal texture thats not rusted, (check the tut on gurus network)
-the joint between the rust and the metal should be less defined
-work on your optimization of your images.
hope that helps

try it now,
I changed some things around
and the optimisation... well, that kinda makes the files larger, hence longer loading time...
I will work on that too, anyway.
so tell me what u think

r@m, you refering to DG? he pop's in every now and then... Not all too often though.
I'm looking forward to your rust tute. I've found some darn nice ways to rust things myself but I've always had problems when it comes to flakeing bit's of metal and transitions from minor surface rust to deep rust. If you've got the time you could do it for the GN as I think their looking for more tutes at the moment. (Not that I can talk... )

Dracusis..nope ..I was refering to Dan, haven't seem him for a while.....
Anyways I've managed to get a tut-of-sorts together, going to finish it in a few hours,
I'll re-post it when it's done, it's getting a bit long.
http://www.ramdesign.8k.com/tuts/rust-with-holes/rust1.htm
masses of graphics as usual
Probably not ground-breaking stuff, but i came up with this method when I could'nt find
any decent Rust tuts on the net.
I saw a short tut by Misery and wasn't happy with the effect, so developed it a little.
More to come .......let me know how you get on.....
Freeservers can be a pain in the ass to access sometimes.

sigh.........another job just landed so I'm not going to get this finished tonight.
Hopefully It'll be completed over the weekend.....I hate rushing things, but maybe
what I've done so far will help.
There's so many ways you can take this effect, and it just dawned on me that maybe it was the frame rust
that you were taking about.
Anyway check out the technique and see what you think, as always I hate writing rigid tutorials (and reading for that matter so let me give it some thought, and try out a few steps first.
When I did that interface, a lot of the time was taken up with trial and error , so no real step by step process
applies.
A few ICQ sessions with Phil, discussing corrosion and natural decay helped.
There's a thread here somewhere about DVGarage, they have some neat QT Anims and get down and dirty
with attention to detail...that's generally where my thinkings at.

The edges. Dude! I've tried several times to do that kind of edge/fade, but with no success. You just filled in one of the biggest pieces. I never thought of duplicating the Clouds, but would try different sets of Clouds (very piss-poor results).
Thanks. I very much appreciate it.

It still needs work but it's not too bad...
