When I first start ps6 it takes an unusual amount of time to get through the sorting fonts list. |

I used to have the same problem before I re-formatted - here was my solution: turn off anti-virus programs. I was using McCaffee(sp?) w/win98, and whenever I loaded up ps, it would freeze during the font reading, unless I disabled it. |

I've been running the free version of AVG for quite some time now and I've been pretty impressed, low resource usage and it hasn't caused any of my programs (including PS6) to lock up. |

I know what you mean... I have well over 6000 unique fonts and usually have at least 800-1000 installed at any one time. |

If you have that many fonts, it helps to use a font management program like Suitcase. Fonts do use up a lot of system resources, on both Macs and Windows. Particularly complex dingbat fonts. |

Under Windows you can use The Font Thing to manage your font collections... |

Most anti-virus programs have an on/off switch in the system tray nowadays. You can switch it off, start Photoshop, and switch it back on. |
