(I've been thinking about this for some time, and would like to hear your thoughts about it.)

I expect that in a matter of years it will become possible to link the human mind to an electrical interface, such as your computer. This way, you could use your brain to use the computer. No more keyboards, no mice, you just think of it and it happens. Just a plug somewhere in your body, connected to your brain. Not input, like to a digital world like the matrix, just output.

If they'd sell it, would you use it?

(and if you want to comment on the picture, please do so on the Sig forum. [ http://www.ozoneasylum.com/Forum14/HTML/000474.html ] Keeps this thread clean.)

Here is something similar already
You choose one, go to the next page and the one that you have chosen disappears on the next page.

I don't think it will be possible in the near future, but who knows, it's just me.
There is other thing that I believe in and it might happen in the near future. With the help of technology to help blind people to see again, at least to be able to see something.

yeah krets, I remember that trick. My gf showed me the site and it took all of five seconds to figure it out.

They give you ten cards, and you have to pick one and they're supposed to have removed whatever card you picked but it was a trick. They give you five black (clubs and spades) cards and five red (hearts and diamonds) card and then you click one and it looks like it's the only one that's removed because they replace them all but they keep the same ratio and placement of suits so you think the rest of the cards haven't changed. Simple, really.

mahjqa,

In short, yes, I would love to try out a device such as you describe. I am reminded of what Mr. Scott said when directed to use a keyboard as opposed to voice... "How quaint".

Yes, I would buy it and use it. I would pay... in 2001 dollars... around $20,000 for it. Only if it was extremely efficient, refined, and as powerful as advertised ! I'm more than certain my productivity would more than double, so it's well worth the price tag I've set.

InI - you see, humans simply aren't capable of solving their own problems. Thankfully, we've invented something that one day will. Let's just hope that we can keep it together until then!

The problem with low-jacking into your brain is that we do not currently know enough about the human brain to wire it up properly to run computer programs. They are currently doing a study where they've hooked a monkeys brain up to a robotic arm. Whenever the monkey moves his arm, the robotic arm moves in the same manner. This is fairly simple since we can map the brain pathways for arm movement. How do we map the pathways for circular marque in Photoshop?

Another problem is that any hardware in our heads would have to rely on our brains for power. No one is going to go in for surgery every 5 years to replace a battery. Power technology just isn't there yet. Otherwise we'd be driving electric cars already.

Also our bodies would attempt to reject any hardware that is in our heads. Anyone with one of these hookups would have to take anti-rejection pills daily for life.

I would also hate to have to go into surgery every six months to upgrade my processor.

If one day brain surgery isn't as dangerous as it is now, science can develop a device that the body doesn't see as foreign and it can run on our brains own electrical impulses, I would get in line for an attachment.

It's your God, they're your rules, YOU go to Hell.

The other problem is that impulses along neural pathways are much slower than electrical pulses. They actually move at around the speed of sound (6 or 7 hundred MPH), which is rather fast because to go from your legs to your head would require only a fraction of a sound, but rather slow compared to lightspeed for electrical impulses along a supreconductor.

I kinda forget a lot. If I had my mind connected to this site, I would have to copy and paste everything. I wouldn;t have to read books and all that stuff 'cus' it would be memorized instanly. I would do it.

God made us and he is dead now. Maybe we'll produce the next smarter being and die, too?

C'mon Bug! Don't know if God is dead, but he certainly has left man to his own devices (which is good). It's about time that Man decided to take responsiblility for himself (and herself). Think God has enough to do without trying to babysit Mankind. If people would accept that, maybe we could then get on with things. As for a digital mind, I'm all for it. Can't wait for it to become reality. We use computers, why not have one directly connected?

WebShaman, yes indeed. I wish I could press a button to motivate Mankind to do what's right. But you nailed it, even God doesn't force us to do anything. So it comes down to each and every one of us to pull our own weight.

The digital mind will be another excellent tool that we can use for excellent advances, and as always, plenty of pain and suffering. The struggle never ends...

I hope to be able to witness and hopefully use such devices before I drop off the twig.

Heh, heh, and mebbie if human cloning comes soon enough, we'll get Bugs in double pack!!! Seriously, hope I live long enough to 'use' such technology, too. Although two or more kretsminsky's? Hmmm...might be interesting to watch them all argue and curse one another!! 'No, no! I'm the real Krets! You are just a stupid dumb-ass clone!' (heh, heh)

Back to me, the topic starter I would certainly do it, (hell, that's why I asked) just for the time it would save and... if PS would work at the speed of thought... What would not be possible? If I'm still alive when it happens, which I think will be in 10 or 20 years... man. That's gonna be a very exciting time.

You already can (to a certain extent). There is a company called IBVA Technologies, Inc. and they have been working on B.A.C.'s for 20+ years! I've wanted to get my hands on one of their systems, especially since they have an Xtra for Director that will allow you to input brainwave activity right into it.

If you go o the site, go to the basic version, their 'Advanced' Version hurts my head.

Try this out go here. It is the 'Guess the Dictator and/or Television Sit-Com Character' game. Basically you think of a either a Dictator or sitcom character in your head and answer yes/no questions and it will eventually get it right. So far it has gotten correct everyone I've thought of:

B.A. Barakus (sp?) from the A-Team
Twinkie from Buck Rogers
Woody from Cheers
Chandler from Friends
Webster from (duh) Webster

Hey NoJive, that wouldn't be in MI would it (not really a dairy farm here that I know of just playing off of the nickname)
