Post what you got first, its a lot lot easier to help someone along rather than write a tutorial for you.
And if there was just one straight forward technique, it would be different for every texture.
Oh and do you have a wacom or not ? Or more specifically are you looking for purely photoshop techniques rather than visual observations.

Help us to help you, like I'm not arsed looking for Greg Martin in Google, post a link.

Well David, can you draw? Because buying a Wacom when you can't draw is a big waste. Those things are expensive and they arn't going to give you skills you don't already have.

As for texturing images like GM does, it looks to me like it's all done by hand on sperate layers and added via blend modes and opacity shifts. Which is the same for texturing any image, hand drawn or not.

I can't speak for Greg Martin (his stuff looks great!) but when I texture things, like an interface or a sig, I usually use a bunch layers and paint things directly rather than use filters. For instance, my sigs from the heraldry contest were pretty much hand textured. In fact, the whole winning image was pretty much painted rather than anything else. It started out as this crappy drawing:

Texturing for my digital paintings is always done by hand/wacom. I don't normally use blend modes, just regular painting that's built up bit by bit, sort of like an oil painting.

But something like this:

...was basically done with PS channels, lighting and blend modes.

If you have a specific example, I may be able to help.

Welcome to the funny farm, David. Greg Martins stuff is, indeed , very nice, but it seems to be hand painted. As already mentioned, if you don`t already posess paintint/drawing skills. a tablet would be an exxtravagant expense. Best to develop those skills a less expensive way first. Paper/pencil...canvas/paints .....mouse/painter/photoshop...or similar.

If what you want to do is texture photos, or computer generated images, that`s a different can of worms. Let us know more about what you want and we can be more help.

well this is my current situation i have no painting skills, well as close to none.. my drawing skills are averageish tho i really must be focused i can't draw that well when i'm in rumourish place,

i will post some drawings when i have the time this weekend, and maybe you guys can 'grade' it if i should develop this more or not?

Painting is really expensive for me to subsidice so that would be a no go for me.. unless there is some program to paint just like real.. i can't afford to practise with real paint...

thnx for the help you guys giving me, and i thought it over btw about buying a wacom.. :P cos they are $%#& expensive.

cheerio,

David

p.s. you'll hear from me soon
