I'm thinking of using http://thinkro.com/ to register my domain name (9.50 a year full ownership) and provide free hosting. Does this look like an ok deal? This will be my first domain, and if I need to upgrade my hosting they also offer that. My only concern with the free package is the data transfer. 250mb a month, but I doubt I'd be getting 200 hits a month or no more than 800 a year. Here are some of the things that are selling me on this so if you guys know something that would be better for me (and known to be good) please speak up.

Domain registration that seems cheap and can take it with you if you ever decide to change hosts.
PHP - I'm only in my learning stages but...
SQL - I want to do a blog so I can learn db and php.
Free hosting
Cheap hosting if I ever need something more. I've heard of cheaper from Ozones own Pugzly but I don't know if they offer anything else like this.

It will probally be a while before I make any final decisions. I don't want to rush into a trap or anything but please speak up if you think I'm going to get burned.

9.50 a year seems very good, find out what you get with the free hosting , i.e , ads, popups etc..
Also is the server at all fast, see some site they host.
What is the price of the non-free hosting ? $10 a month is about usual for something alright with the above. Remember you get what you pay for.

This is the lowest price pay plan:

$6.95 per month
50 MB of disk storage
1000 MB of data transfer
10 e-mail accounts
10 sub-domains
3 MySQL databases

Then the next one:

$9.75 per month
75 MB of disk storage
2000 MB of data transfer
20 e-mail accounts
20 sub-domains
6 MySQL databases

And he says all come with this:
$0 setup fee
No commitment
Control Panel
Site Stats
24x7 Support
FTP Access
CGI bin
PHP
MySQL
Web mail
FrontPage extensions
phpMyAdmin
Cron Jobs
SSI

It all doesn't look too bad, and the cron jobs could do some good backups or whatever.

I signed up with them not too long ago and have been pretty happy. Lots of bandwidth and space.. $5/month not including domain name reg. which is elsewhere. Their service is quick too. There was a thread around here somewhere but I'm too lazy right now.

The first plan seems to be all you need at a reasonable price. Shop around eitherway.

As hugh said before though, check for the catches with the free hosting...no one gives away free hosting; no one. There's always required banner ads, or pop-ups, or something. Because while they given you a list of what the free hosting gives you, they haven't given you a list of what it doesn't give you.
