Suho1004: I have no problem to access the page with FF0.8, MZ1.6, IE5.01 -> 6.0, and I doubt that InI restricted the access, if he did, there would have been no point to post the pong in the Asylum.

InI: That's a promising volley. I'll work on mine today.

Very cool. I hope this picks up (the whole Javascript pong idea). I'd love to play a few matches, but unfortunately I'll be out of town until late August starting Friday
Maybe when I get back this fall I'll have time to get in on it (hopefully it'll still be going on then).

Looks great so far you two, keep it up

Thank you guys. I must admit that the idea popped in InI's mind. And since I'm not in Java, I couldn't really get in a JavaPong.
I hope the recent friendly contests in the DHTML forum will motivate some inmates to code some little toys.

I wondered if I should comment the code in my volley, and gave up in regard of the small number of lines. Nonetheless if it sounds useful or necessary, we could make the little effort to comment the code in the next volleys.

Nice improvements. I like the direction it's taking, and yes the 3 updates rules seems to work like a charm.
Here comes the 4th volley.

"major" updates :

  • dynamic rotation with inertia
  • wobbling effect
  • slowly flickering color intensity

minor updates :

  • made the centering work in both X and Y
  • added the ASCII code of the characters in the DIVs to give them a periodic table look

Alas the perfomances of Mozilla's rendering engine drops drastically when the number of elements to update increase. And I'm not even talking about Firefox. That's the sad reality, thoughI pray for a perfomance boost since the betas of Mozilla.

Ok, no problem. You said the rounds in the JavaPong lasted 2-3weeks, so I could wait several days.

The updates in the 6th volley are :

  • transformed the square in a long wobbling ribbon
  • replaced the squares of color by some resizing sprites using a canvas method
  • brought back the writing in the form of a scrolling
  • removed the interaction between the mouse and the angle of the whole thing ( it already moves enough )

Hope you'll enjoy it.

Tested in IE5.01+, MZ1.6+, OP7.50

InI: It's funny to see you reacting to the implementation of a feature 2 days later
The canvas method is used in many JS games, including 3D TOMB ( I and II ). It avoids to swap the image and saves some bytes since there's a single image. There's 2 ways to implement it, either by embeding the IMG in a DIV and using the overflow of the DIV, or with just an IMG and using its clip property. But the clip way is a bit tricky and require to touch more properties.

*: Thank you guys. I'd like to take some popcorns and enjoy a JS Pong as a spectator too ( while still playing in this one of course ), so I dare to remind that Wrayal started the Javascript pong: Wrayal vs ? thread to start another JS Pong.
