Hey everyone! I'm currently trying to code my new art website but I'm having difficulties making the mouseovers work. So far, I can make it so that an image changes when I put the cursor over it, but what I want to do is make that image and two others (not in the area where the mouse is) change too. Does anyone know how I can do this?

onmouseover="command1(); command2(); command3();"

or

onmouseover="change();"

function change()
{ img1.src="img1.jpg";
img1.src="img1.jpg";
img1.src="img1.jpg";
};

During the time Dream Catcher took to register to the Asylum he/she could have found thousands of examples of working scripts and tutorials. Alas, to cite a hard working inmate, it seems that the concept of moving your ass and get to work remains unknown to many people.

He also could have found a place where people help other people figure this type of thing out....and politely asked his question, in order to get some specific help....

You can't assume that just because you know what to search for and what results will actually be helpful, that dreamcatcher didn't try to search as well but with less impressive results.

DL-44: Indeed, but the first result on Google for onMouseOver: more than one image change gives exactly what DreamCatcher needs. Which makes the hypothesis of an unlucky research on the net very unlikely. That's why I assume DreamCatcher didn't "really" investigated his problem. He's been able to formulate his problem but didn't made the "effort" to type that formulation in a search engine.

Or perhaps he simply doesn't understand the results he got.

This is a fairly basic issue, but to someone with no Javascript experience it can easily be a tough one.

Aren't such questions the reason that the asylum is here in the first place?

Yep. That's also the reason why there's a FAQ ( and some search features ) on the Asylum.

How do I dynamically swap images?
Changing multiple graphics with a rollover.

You gonna hate me but there's no need to know the Asylum by heart to click on FAQ, then DHTML/JavaScript and finaly How do I dynamically swap images ?. But I shouldn't assume that Dream Catcher knows what the FAQ accronym means and what is the use of a such section on a site.

I admit I'm teasing a bit, but I'm serious when I talk about trying to find the solutions on the net and in some FAQs.

Whatever, it could be great to have some news from Dream Catcher to see if he managed to do his multiple rollover.

dear lord...

only point is, there was no harm in his question, and he came to a place where such things get asked, and quite possibly didn't know where to look, what terminology to use.

I'm all for doing your research before hand, but sometimes you just don't find what you need and you have to stop and ask....

And I can not stress how important accurate spelling and appropriate wording is in this world...

Anyhow, I believe this discussion important, and I enjoy it much more when discussion is like this, humoric, and interesting.

Afterall, DreamCatcher got a couple of pointers into the right direction, which I believe is a big chunk of what the asylum is about - it indeed is easy to use google, if you know what to ask for. If you don't, we still won't do your work for you, but I'm always happy to point someone to some further reading.
Another big chunk of course is the detailed help - "I'm tyring to do XYZ, this is my script, do you have suggestions?" - "You gotta add more depth into the picture".

so long,

The poster has demanded we remove all his contributions, less he takes legal action.
We have done so.
Now Tyberius Prime expects him to start complaining that we removed his 'free speech' since this message will replace all of his posts, past and future.
Don't follow his example - seek real life help first.

EDDII: Indeed that discussion is pointless. My 3 previous posts proved 2 things:

  • I can be an ass.
  • Contrary to what anyone can say Dream Catcher didn't really searched the solution to his problem before asking for it.

Did I already said I'm teasing ? Whatever, like you, I'm always happy to help other people ... provided that they do the effort to search a bit on the net, in the FAQ and previous threads of the Asylum. An inmate said once : "I prefer to learn you how to fish rather than giving you a fish". To which I may add : " provided that you searched the stream.".

Between two "spanks" I gave Dream Catcher more pointers than he really needs to code a multiple rollover. Those pointers leads to other ones to solve many other problems in DHTML.

InI: You're right. I'm one to rely on my own means. But I became like that by experience, and because I've been more times than I wanted to in the situation where I had to code/debug something in an extremely tight deadline and asking this or that on a forum was a no-no.

One last point : GFA is an ancient language but it's not dead. Do not push me, you know I'm crazy and capable to code again in GFA just to show you my tongue.

Just a bit of perspective from someone who picked up early from reading alot of posts here that there is a phenominal knowledge base to "search then ask" from, there are many young learners like myself that have googled a topic and landed here. Google yourself the term "menu rollover" and what is the first one that looks like a buncha nuts that are personable and would be willing to help someone out? number 2 on the list behind an ominous looking ssi developement link. I'm sure that DC, once inside the bottomless FAQ will learn that there even existed this resource and not soon return from it until all is understood about image rollovers. Its possible and probable the beginning search indeed landed them here.
