My systems keeps hanging when I'm playing games (all games).

Spex: P4 2.8GHZ 1G memory.

Anyone with a solution as to what could be the matter.

PS. I'd removed my memory two 512's and connected them the wrong way but I corrected this as soon as I realised and thats when this whole problem started.

PS1. The memory still works and registers as 1Gig.

Have you tried updating all your drivers.
Sound Card
Vid Card
Direct X???

if you are good with that then go ahead and reinstall Direct X. If it was just one game I could blame the game. But if it's all games it's definately a driver issue.

[MS_marketing_staff] Your OS is Win2k Professional. The fact that your systems hangs when you play is not a bug but a feature : Professionals don't play games. [/MS_marketing_staff]

Reinstall DirectX and all the crucial drivers one by one and see if it works.

Suppose it may be an overheating problem aswell, check connections and airflow, are all your fans working properly?

Maybe the RAM and/or RAM slots are dirty. (Even if it still says its the right size) When using the RAM, if its dirty, bad things can happen.

Did the 2 RAM's (whatever you call them :P ) work fine before? (I'm wondering because maybe one isn't compatible with your motherboard)

I traced the problem to a loose processor fan and i installed I new one.

But the problem persists...

Thanx guys, I'll try reinstalling sound and video drivers.

Which graphiccard are you running with which driver? How does it come to the error? Does your system just freeze or reboot? Try without the wrong memory in case just try to game with only 512MB and look what happens...

Have a look if your computer is overheated :-]

The PC just freezes in the middle of the game, say 3 mins after launching the game ( any game: hitman, NFS, Duke, Collin Mc Rae,)

Damn this is really annoying, all work and no Play is making me a very irritable Kaboi

I've tried google and blackviper, nothing doing.

PS. On the task manager, Its seems that alot of memory is being used even when the pc is idle. 10mb on rvscan and another like 10 3mbs on other services, I counted a total of 80mb, is that normal?

PS1. Im on NTFS, if that matters.

did you reinstall directx?
is your agp cooler ok?

i've seen this kind of error before ... it could be either power supply (or ups), graphics card or windows (or drivers/directx) which is causing the error

most probably it isn't neither ram nor cpu becouse they would cause errors elsewhere as well

i remember when we made a lan with friends once ... just 8 of us or so ... and two of the computers hanged alot when playing games ... at home they didn't ... there just wasn't enough power for 8 computers so some of the weaker psu-s started to malfunction

You see the thing is, all the games were ok before I had that memory incident.

I've re-installed directx 8.1 ( is there a newer version), vga drivers, sound drivers, I've tried running on 512memory and still this problem just wont let me be.

Arthurio, how did you fix the problem?
