Dead Milkmen
The only way I can describe them is hardrock polka.

Bloodhound Gang
Sex and humour.

King Tee
The Dead Milkmen of old school rap. Quality cheese.

Captain Poopshoot and the Cornhole Patrol
Over all, not that great, but a few true gems.

I'm 23 and some of my music is going to sound immature but i jam out to this stuff like it's going out of style.

Blink 182 - self titled - at least 5 good songs on that CD

Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Californiacation

Velvet Revolver - ??? album name but with some Stone Temple and G n' R and someone else big you can't go wrong

And the new CURE song End of the World is incredibly catchy i'm sure the rest of the CD is also.

You probably heard most of these but if you haven't you should give them a try.

Frank Zappa - Joe's Garage (Disc 1 is great, but 2 was... lackluster to say it best).

Funny and sounds good. Just stay outta the white zone.

Unless you gotta load. Or unload.

Lately, these records have been on constant replay:

Bruce Springsteen - Greetings from Asbury Park
Bruce Springsteen - The Wild, The Innocent, and the E Street Shuffle
Bruce Springsteen - Born to Run

Maybe I'm binging on Springsteen here, but his earlier stuff (most after 1980, except Nebraska, was crap) is absolutely perfect.

Hmm, and...

Modest Mouse - Good News For People Who Love Bad News

Taylor Sorensen - Overflow (probably the first "Christian" CD I've been blown away by.)

Dave Matthews - Some Devil ("Stay or Leave" is one of the most...touching? emotional? songs I've heard in a long time)

[edit:

How could I have forgotten?

Belle and Sebastian - Tigermilk

Awesome band. Awesome. Awesome.

Oh yes, and the Easy Rider soundtrack. It's not exactly...new, however. ]

I second FZ Joe's Garage. Either that or "Just Another Band from LA."

Also, I've been overloading on the Grateful Dead lately since the Live Music Archive added over 2400 of their live shows. Oh, and best of all they are free, in a legal way.

You might also try:

Cake - Motorcade of Generosity
Cynic - Focus

Those about cover one extreme to the next.

Metroid Metal - Kraid

Is this from the game "Metroid"?? That's one of the dudes in the game isn't it? Kraid?

I'll share a couple of bands....

Iced earth : For all those 80's metal heads. These guys are still holding on to that image.
OSI : This is a colaboration with the ex-guitarist from Fates Warning, 1st keyboardist from Dream Theater and the current drummer for them. Very technical prog music.

alright...let's have some more

http://www.metroidmetal.com/

Technically, Kraid is the supreme ruler of Brinstar (not that it is something to be proud of :P), but there is a region of it that is labeled as the Kraid Lair. If you played both metroid 1 and Metroid Zero Mission, you know what part that is.

A few non-gaming related bands and artists:

Al Dimeola
Tijuana Brass
Anoushka
Bauhaus
Elastica
Enigma
Fiona Apple
Gregorian: Master of Chaint
King Crimson
Liquid Tension Experiment
Los Fabulosos Cadillacs ()
Manu Chao
Massive Attack
Mecano (look for "hijo de la luna")
Mushroom head (bite me)
Opeth
Santo and Johnny
Yngwie Malmsteen

I have a few more but they are more mainstream and you surely have heard of most of them.

Btw, thanks for your kronos quartet suggestions

CFB - If you like Modest Mouse, maybe you should check out Fugazi, onelinedrawing, or some of Modest Mouse's older stuff, which is really good..

If you likes Blues, I highly recommend Devendra Banhart, He is extremely good.

Maroon 5
These guys have a couple of tunes on the radion right now - we bought the cd and love it from start to finish. That's rare for me these days. I do love the minor keys tho.

And Mr. Ben Harper is always worth listening to...

Ben Harper is more folk rock and blues than anything else - but highly recommended (plays a Wessenborne slide guitar - very cool), and Maroon 5 seems kinda pop-y, but I was pleasantly surprised by their lyrics and melodies...

I'm also fond of Gov't Mule, a collaboration of some of the elder statesmen of rock music...

But you know, I seem to listen to a lot more mainstream music than I used to... I think it's James' fault...
There's some good stuff listed up there - you ought to be able to find something!

In the spirit of saying - Not all Techno is Gay, and not all Trance sucks.

I am a big electronica-head, with my favorite genre's being Psy/Goa-Trance. Although, the past while been digging some electroy-house/clash.

But, for Psytrance.

- Zen 2 comp : If you like dark, hard, fast, twisted music - give this complimation CD a shot, with artists like Kindzadza and Osom, this CD proves that 'trance isnt always happy'. Osom - Over Game, this song, damn .. so chaotic, so good.
- Juno Reactor - Shango : The track Pistelero off of this CD is what got hooked me on psy, for a long time I was a punk kid, and only listened to punk, then I heard Pistelero and nearly wet myself, the song is simply amazing and launched me into the world of trippy ass music.
- Four Carry Nuts - Mechanical Age : New-Goa with an old-style touch, in the waves of fullon cookie cutter releases, these guys pop up with an old-school sound, with hints of industrial mixed in with goa trance, definaly worth checking out.
- Xenomorph - any CD by him really, this stuff sounds like it belongs ona halloween complimation, but very listenable/enjoyable.

other artists worth checking out : Neelix, Native Radio - minimal / progressive / driving psytrance

For some nice electroclashish type stuff, check out DJ Tiga and Felix Da Housecat, its stuff I'm just starting to get into, but really enjoying.

I wish more psy/goa producers had the same diveristy, depth and structure that Juno has, but ... that reminds me to add - Shpongle, Simon Posford is a god, and his collaboration with Raja Ram (they are Shpongle) is amazing. They produce some great stuff. I'd be hard pressed to call it psy, or goa, or really lable it at all as anything other than - Damn Good.
