Here goes nothing...

EDIT - Well, that certainly is rather blah looking, isn't it? And there is a slight halo around the lighter stars in the background. Ah well, back to the drawing board.

I'm still working on my first ever sig, and I am still not happy with my own efforts, so I must say that I like yours a lot. You'll work out the glitches, I'm sure.

Thanks, Mas and White Hawk.

I'll definitely work on shrinking it, didn't realize it was quite that large. Part of my problem is my online name is so damn long. I should just use "Rhyssa" in the sigs, it'll be easier on me.

It's also not very integrated, is it? A star and some text - bleh. I'm more used to making rectangular sigs though, and doing one that deliberately isn't in a box is new to me. I'll keep playing at it though.

I really like the t at the end of Fireheart.
I guess your going to get rid of that though.
So, ahhh. no real comments.
Tired.

Here's an idea, though it may not be a great one...

Perhaps you could simply relegate "Fireheart" to the background of "Rhyssa". It may not be entirely legible, but we all know your name, and it would be better than deleting it altogether. Perhaps you could be obvious about it and set the "Fireheart" in flames, or in embers?

I like that last 't' too.

Perhaps this is better? Hoping the transparency works on the second background.

EDIT - WOOT! I like this mucho more than the first attempt.

I like the last version much better.

Some things i don't like though -

1) the typeface. it's just a bit too.....half hearted/contrived. It mixes various styles of medeival script together as if they were one style, and seems like it's really trying hard to be.....'cool'. But it's not. There are a fair amount of good fonts out there that are a bit more on the ball. I highly recommend the Aon Cari font. It is a prime example of a classic English Uncial script often associated with Celtic works.

2) the yellow seems a bit too bright. I think either simply toning down the color a little, or adding some sort of design/texture to it would help.

3) the sudden gradient at the end. it basically looks like you didn't know how to end it, so you tossed that in. Making the yellow bit look like a banner would be a nice touch I think. If you are going to stick with a gradien thtough, I would recommend making it a much longer gradient so that it fades out rather than looking like it took a sudden turn.

I think this sig has a lot of potential.

Thanks for the suggestions, DL-44. You're completely right about the gradient, I was going to have it fade out on both sides, but it didn't look right on the left, so I left that out and just put it on the right side.

I can see about toning the yellow down a bit. There is some texture in there, but it doesn't seem to show up very well once I shrank it a bit. I'll think about what I can do with it.

I looked at the font you linked, and I'm pretty sure that I have ones very similar to it already. Celtic fonts are some of my favorites, but I was deliberately trying to stay away from using those. I wanted a font with a bit of something, but not overtly Celtic or serif. I tend to not reuse fonts if I can help it, but since this is for an Asylum sig, and not one of my regular board sigs, I think I'll make an exception.

I am not going to touch on what has already been brought up except to say I like the second attempt better as well. How about making the yellow part like a scroll instead of a gradient fade?

Well, it's not exactly a scroll, more like parchment in a way.

Hmm.. I thought the parchment/background needed a bit of depth.. not sure how well it works out though...

oh yah, that sig03 is nice. The depth on 03a looks a little over done and clean. I like it better with out...

hmm... you know what might really push that paper over the top? Adding some texture to it, not crinkled paper, more like worn dirty paper.. .or paper that has drip and spill stains on it... just something to dirty it up a little bit. oh yah.

I do like what you have so far though. It is coming along rather nicely. Good Joourb there!

Sweet!

Of all the ones you've posted by far I love this one the best:

A small subtle change I would make is not so even a color in the parchment like thing. With all the destruction and wear the thing looks like it has gone through it seems to have been bleached or something to have such a uniform color. Maybe some burn marks around the edges or a VERY subtle gradient in the yellow?

But all that aside if you left it alone I think you have a keeper. Great advice from DL-44, that font looks great!

Fantastic Job!

Peace,

As a sidenote - it is funny to me that such typefaces are called "celtic", when in fact the uncial script is a Roman form. The most well known examples come from the Irish and Northumbrian scribes, though the majority of examples are from Italian or other Mediterrenean sources.

I would get rid of that piece all the way to the left.
if something has really deteriorated(Can't spell) that much it would be blown away by the wind.
it captures too much attention when it should be focusing on the spiral thing which rawks.

d ooyu mean the piece to the right? If you are, then yes, I agree. If it's not attached in some way, chances are it wouldn't be there.

Other than that, this is some damn good work, be proud of yourself.

Well, I tried going with the suggestion of burn marks, but I think the second attempt is a bit too overdone. I did take off the floating part on the right, and it looks better without that there.

EDIT - looking at both sigs up there makes me reconsider. I think I might just try playing up the subtleties in the background colors in the parchment, and leave off the burn marks. It's not doing it for me, and I'm thinking it takes away from the name and star there. Of course, it could just be me doing it wrong as well.

EDIT 2 - Variated background version.

Let's see how this one will come out. I liked it when I previewed it offline.

I settled on using version 3b finally. After looking at them all for a while, it's grown on me and I really like how it turned out. Don't think I would have gone that direction or managed to come up with it on my own without input here.

Thanks for all the advice from everyone.
