Topic awaiting preservation: I have a Trojan - Immediate Help Requested (Page 1 of 1)

Ok well I have this problem... I installed the AVG Free Virus Scanner last night on my system and it immediately discovered 24 Trojan horses (note: Norton Anti-Virus M.I.S.S.E.D these) and I was able to remove the majority of them but one of them continues to pester me. Its name is:

Downloader.Dyfica.2.AN

Well see, It's infected my "_restore" directory on my computer, Im assuming one or more of my previous restore points... Well I have run the anti-virus software and attempted to clean and remove the infected file(s) and it refuses to clean it and move it to a secured location on my computer.

Out of desperation, I searched GOOGLE and came up with absolutely nothing & I do mean absolutely nothing. Well I then searched the McAfee, Norton, and AVG virus databases and also came up with NOTHING - so now I'm at a complete loss. How in the hell do I get rid of this damn'd bug? I'll assume these trojans got onto my system when I was without a virus scanner for three days.

My AVG Free Scanner keeps popping up a window saying 'Trojan Discovered: Downloader.Dyfica.2.AN (yada yada yada)... Where do I go from here? I need some help.. I want this damn'd thing off of my system. Can anybody help me, please!?

ok basically, the virus/trojan has been bundled up into a restore point, I assume that you're using Windows XP or ME as these are the 2 operating systems that brought this technology to the home user.

In order to remove the virus/trojan you will have to turn off System Restore, then try scanning with AVG again, you can turn off system Restore from your System Properties, there should be a tab dedicated to it.

You'll need to restart your machine, once restarted it will turn off the protection to the _restore folder, and you should be able to remove the virus, or failing that delete the restore point, be aware that if you do delete your restore point you won't be able to use it again! (of course).

But unless you find that you need to restore often you'll probably be fine, I haven't used a restore point in ages, and last time i did waas because of some corrupted drivers.

Anyway, once you've removed the virus/trojan make sure to put the system restore back on, and keep your computer virus free in the future, to stop re-infection.

Norton sucks as an anti-virus app. AVG is truly great, from my experience.

The one good thing about Norton is that they often post removal tools on their website for the various nasty worms that pop up from time to time that the AV can't help directly.

Fortunately, you don't have to use Norton to use these removal tools.

I think Norton kicks butt. I've used probably all of them, and Norton is by far my favorite (Trend Micro's is a close second).

Usually when I hear someone saying the hate Norton they speeg of the big "package" thingy (firewall, system cleany uppie etc etc), which I agree, completely sucks and can destabilize your system *real* quick. I've never had any problems with stand alone Norton *AntiVirus* though fwiw.
