I've been tinkering around with Blender again as of late and I gotta say that I'm VERY impressed! Ever since it has gone open source it has evolved into a very powerful app that is a real competitor against the big boys like 3dmax and maya. So many Features! So little file space! So fast and so easy! Not to mention its soooooo FREE! The GUI seems all backwards and crazy at first but once you get started you find its actually intuitive and effecient, just very different from the norm. |

Man I tried, used to use it a wee bit but the interface, she drove me crazy, and this from a guy that had never fiddled with any other 3d program. Plus it was being shut down at the time and I was having trouble running down references and tutorials etc. Glad to hear it's back, why don't you dump any links you have here? |

JKMabry, Don't be discouraged. I couldn't figure heads nor tails of it the first time I tried it way back when either. However now that its open source, the docs are online and the user base has increased so there are more people willing to help a noob out. Also the GUI has been redone with as I understand it, the intention of only showing the options and tools that are available depending on which mode you're in, and hiding the stuff that you don't need yet. I've worked my way through chapter 1 here: http://www.blender.org/modules/documentation/htmlI/ Its a very essential chapter that teaches you how to use the interface keypress by keypress. And then guides you through the creation and animation of a gingerbread man. Also, the folks on #blender on the freenode server were very helpful whenever I reach a point that had me stumped. Now I'm gonna try to make my way through the rest of those docs. |

I downloaded it and then my internet went down--no good docs. |

I seriously doubt blender had much to do with your internet connection. And the docs don't come bundled with it, They are all online. |

I used, I loved it, and I almost wrote a tutorial for it at GN. |

hey, please check out whatever thread i started in GN recently about getting some Blender action going. I've been teaching the program to myself for a couple months now. The game engine interests me the most because such a thing is impossible with 3ds max, but I do still use 3ds max to help me model things and then I import the stuff in. Modeling was never my forte to begin with... But anywho, YES, Blender IS AWSEOME, and python is really impressive in the sense that it's rediculously easy to pick up and the new library reference makes it even easier. |
