hi friends
i have a question
i have a rather basic one color logo with a lot os swirls, rounds in it
i wish to convert this into a (Vector) shape
i know how to do this by using the action 'make clip path' & make work path
but something that is round will get blocky no matter what i try
is there any other way to make a vector shape out of a basic 1 colour rounded logo other then 'belzier' ?

thanks in advance

There's no good way to do this without getting in there with the pen tool yourself.

Any automated solution you find will be inherently flawed and will need extensive correcting.

I highly recommend spending some time with this tutorial: http://www.gurusnetwork.com/tutorial/pen/

I know that Flash has a Bitmap -> Vector function that may be of service to you, if you have Flash that is.

Just a thought have you tried setting the frequncy when in make clip path?

0.5 is the lowest and the most accurate. It's not extremely accurate but enough to salvage.

If still you don't get what you want then the option I can see is do it from scratch.

Not much I can say except settle into that pen tool tut, and practice

I don't know anything about Flash, but barring that, I've never seen an easy way to do this other than just getting your hands dirty...

Yeah, I'd agree that using the pen tool would be your best bet.

However, I notice that there seems to be some vertical symmetry to the logo, so you may be able to get away with just tracing the top half and rotating that to use for the bottom.

Flash would rough you that shape (see nax's Trace Bitmap advice above) and you could then export from Flash to Illustrator and fine tune it there. You've not mentioned anything about having either app but figured I'd throw that in.

Saving shapes is quite nice, especially if you don't have illustrator, then you always have them available in your shapes pallete. I would definitely save the PSD with the path as well however, cuz I'm a "never know" packrat like that. You should however be able to get away with just storing it as a custom shape.

Yes, I would save it as a shape, and I would most definately keep the .PSD with the paths - you don't want to go through that work and then lose it somehow...

Did you know that saving the shape is actually just as good, that is I mean, you can edit the shap as you would a normal path if you set the custom shape to to "shape layers" or "paths" before you drag out yer shape? It's true!

So the only reason to save the PSD, and it's a darned good reason: I always (used to) forget to backup all my photoshop preferences and presets before a reformat, that's a lotta brushes, swatches, actions, shapes, color palettes etc etc etc, just... gone

exactly.

it's easier to keep track of a .PSD than a goodie...

I use windows key + F quite a lot when looking through my graphics files, shameful aye?!
