I'm new here. Are you suggesting I be signed out already? Maybe I'm still unwell. And I don't like windows 2000, XP or the like.

I think Kerry is a wimp and Bush wrote Wargasm by himself, after a good night's sleep. But the lesser evil has got to be Kerry. What if they find oil over here beneath my house? Colin will say my socks pose biological hazard and i might use them against my neighbours. I don't want to get to know a bombshell over dinner.

Basic black with a twist. (62K)

I tend to keep my desktops pretty bare, and not have a lot of icons on it. Nothing worse than having half your landscape covered by icons and folders that you have to hunt through to find anything. JMO, YMMV.

Blaise: Thank you pal. The resolution guides and margins proved to be usefull. I also made an HTML version of my background with an animated version for the little girl in the bottom left. That little girl is my avatar on pouet.net.

Two things puzzle me on your desktop : the weather bar, and the notes. Are they real applications ? if so what's their name ?

The Weather bar and Post-it note are indeed two little apps, they're called desktop widgets and are becomming increasingly popular amongst the skinning and theming scene. There are a couple of programs that can create them like Samurize, Desktop X, o Rainlendar, I'm using Kapsules.

The nice thing about desktop widgets is that they all use preoloaded libraries used by other processes, and leave a very small footprint themselves, the bad thing is that theey create more clutter on the desktop, so use sparingly!

Alos depending on which program you use for them, they are usually written in a very simple language like VB or javascript, so scripting your own widgets can be very easily done.

Kapsules for example can have widgest written in VBScript, JScript, RubyScript or Python!!

Enjoy!

Blaise.

It sounds interresting and quite worth keeping an eye on it. When MS introduced the Active Desktop I hoped that sort of things were possibles in HTML, but it was tricky to get something working properly, at least at the time.

Blaise, I've just spent the last hour or so installing the necessary files to use Kapsules. They are very good. Thanks. I must resist downloading the SDK, I have too much else to do, but they look so much fun.

Also, poi, your screen size guides desktop is great idea... hope it's not pat. pending.

That's my desktop. Up until just before this thread, I had the default Windows XP theme and a DeviantART (I think -- DualNeuron) wallpaper. I just switched to a simple black and slightly-blue gradient (fine, 1280x1024 png of a gradient :\).

I always wanted a custom windows theme, but all the ones I could find had quirks that just didn't work. I've found this theme, which is fairly good, but it has it's downs

Anyway, I also downloaded Kapsules (Thanks Blaise) and they're really good, you can see the weather and calendar on the right side.
