Thats Right! It turns off after a bit. All by itself.
I have scaned it with AdAware and found nothing but minor. Foo.
What is the average heat range of the Processor / memory / Mobo?
As far as I can tell, those elements are not a problem though. Just the other night Maxor rendered for 5 hours with no problem. No overheating, no freezing. No nothing.
The only difference is that I have been running my new monitor which has a fancy digital cable on it... And I was wondering if my video card is giving me a problem. Is there a way to test that?
It is a geforce 5900... 2 outputs, a digital and an analog. (i am using both, and have used both for a week with no problem)
Before my new monitor, I was running 2 analog monitors off the card. (at a slightly smaller desktop rez)
errrrrmmmm.... What should I try next?
Would it be worth it to go buy a new power supply? If so, what size/wattage would I need for a farily loaded system?

Gainward GeForce FX 5900 128 MB
*ASUS P4P800
*Intel Pentium 4 3.2GHz 512k 800MHz FSB
*Corsair XMS Extreme Memory Speed Series
I planed on over clocking the system but I have not yet gotten to it.
*1 120gig maxtor ata133 main drive.
*2 maxtor Sata drives using the Sata Raid function of the MoBo
My case is vented with 4 fans (2 front, 2 back) and it is fairly roomy.
I have a monitor function with the MoBo that tells me the temp of the cpu / memory
When the comptuer dies, it shuts down. No screen or warning. It also will not turn back on until i turn the power supply off and then turn it back on.

Sounds like an overheating control to me. When my latest CPU fan was singing on it's last verse, my computer behaved similarly.

okay, the gpu is running at 51C, cpu is usually around 30-40... mobo just a little bit less.
I am not running Norton to see if it finds anything.
Would a Bios Flash be worth while?

Why not try your old monitor for a day or so, izz? If the problem reoccurs, you know it's not due to your new acquisition. If it does reoccur, then you know you have some other issue.

good idea, though, I may just use the analog imput on my flatscreen. Anywhoo, I will be watching the temp levels, and see if I can find any type of pattern.

Not from my own experience, but I've heard if your graphics card doesnt get enough power it can do strange things. Whats your PSU wattage?

I know it has all probably been said already, but I have seen this behaviour in overheating machines before. The last time I saw it was when a friend got hold of a new graphics card. The extra heat overloaded his already poorly cooled system. A better CPU fan and a new case fan sorted the problem out.
The evidence seems to support this possibility, as the computer would refuse to boot back up while the CPU is still above the shutdown temperature.
Also, have you checked the fan and temperature on your power supply unit? If the temperature of your CPU seems fine at the next blackout, check the area of the case above the power supply to see how hot it is - it really shouldn't be much more than warm to the touch.
What is the power rating on your supply - too low and your will see PSU overheats and malfunctioning hardware.
As a last note: though it is always wise to investigate every possibility, I doubt the switch to a digital monitor should make any difference at all... however, it would be a good idea to double-check that you do have the latest drivers for all your hardware. I personally use the latest NVidia drivers for my FX card (currently 61.77) not the older WHQL drivers supplied by Windows Update. If you are using one, it could be worth trying the other - you certainly shouldn't be using anything else with yours.

hokay, updated video card drivers... The Powersupply is a 420 watter... it only feels slightly warm to the touch.
errrmmm...
* Are there any good Stress Test programs out there that I can run?
* Is there some other virus program I should run? (other than AdAware, Spybot, and Norton AV)

SiSoft Sandra is pretty good.

I use that combination myself, but regardless, I doubt that a virus could or would cause your machine to power-off instantly - this really seems more like a hardware thing.

This has been said countless times already but I'll go ahead and bring it up again. It definately sounds like Over-Heating to me. Matter of fact - I can almost gaurentee that's exactly what it is.

My meters are not telling me its too hot... *gollum voice* I swears it!
It does not crash when I am rendering in Max... Or watching dvd's but If i leave it sit long enough, it will go off.
The monitor is not the problem. I am going to get a new power supply. I would try my old supply, but I need a 400W+ to properly power this bad boy. feeeew!

Okay, i got a new power supply. The biggest my computer store had... It has two (yep i counted them) fans in it and even more wires than my last. That means i can get rid of the power splitter adaptors i had.
So far so good. The computer has been running all day long. woo!

Well if you decompile the right module you can find the right answer.
If you open MSGina.dll in ResHacker you can find this code:
CONTROL 22, -1, STATIC, SS_ICON | WS_CHILD | WS_VISIBLE | WS_GROUP, 13, 7, 21, 20
CONTROL "&Why did the computer shut down unexpectedly?", -1, STATIC, SS_LEFT | WS_CHILD | WS_VISIBLE | WS_GROUP, 44, 7, 173, 10
CONTROL "", 2211, COMBOBOX, CBS_DROPDOWNLIST | WS_CHILD | WS_VISIBLE | WS_VSCROLL | WS_TABSTOP, 44, 20, 173, 57
CONTROL "The computer got very poorly and decided to end it's own suffering.", 2212, STATIC, SS_LEFT | WS_CHILD | WS_VISIBLE | WS_GROUP, 44, 40, 173, 33
CONTROL "&Problem Id", -1, STATIC, SS_LEFT | WS_CHILD | WS_VISIBLE | WS_GROUP, 44, 80, 173, 10
There you have it, the proof that Windows has a mind of it's own!
