Look how's my desktop these days!



I've been making some network experiments lately. My wife just bought me a wireless router and then I added it to my small network, that already had a router built-in in the DSL modem. I had to configure the router as an access point. Then, because she bought me only one wireless adaptor (for a notebook), I wanted to use the notebook to wirelessly connect a second desktop to my intranet (and share resources and internet connection).

Here's the full story. I learned some interesting things while trying to make it work. See full story in the link below. To make the story simpler, in the link below I pretended that I was connecting a 2nd desktop to the wireless notebook, but actually I was trying to connect a second notebook, that has no adaptor. But, this second notebook will go away and the 2nd desktop will actually take it's place in the configuration, when it goes to its final place, in another room (confusing huh):

LOL, excellent point JK. Even when I *do* clean up my desk I can't get ridda the dust after a day or two.

That wireless router sure is in a precarious position.

I do not allow our domestic employee to clean this room. I call this room, from our apartment, as my church, because it's where I worship my computers, where no one but me can touch anything, no one but me can clean, no one but me has the final word about what to do. On the other hand, the rest of the apartment is my wife's territory (and actually, my two little daughter's territory as well).

Every now and then I myself vacuum clean it, use some good smelling stuff to clean the wood furniture, clean the window, etc., but my wife is always complaining that my "church" is full of dust. I don't get it, women can clearly see dust where there is not (well, there _is_ the dust, but to some amount that doesn't bother me but bothers her). The worst part to clean is behind that main computer, where there are tons of cables running on the floor.

Soon, the desktop to the left will go to its final place, another room, the notebook to the left will be returned to the boss, the black notebook will stay with my wife (it's hers) and only the main desktop, the one to the right, will stay there, right where it already is.

Also, there are three mini systems there, one silver, right behind the black notebook, connected to two small speakers (one is atop it), one black, to the left of the telephone, connected to two small black speakers (not seen), and one old one, that's really a kenwood receiver bought in the 70's, connected to two rather big wooden (beautiful) kenwood speakers, on the floor, where the cables are run, that's also not seen. I used these three systems and their six speakers to set a 5.1 sound (my motherboard has the 5.1 output). The big speakers make the bass and center positions, the small black ones, the left and right speakers, and the silver one, the rear speakers. It was interesting, but having to have these too many systems and speakers is also messy.

That's a bit outrageous. There's not even room for a coffee or beer, let alone anything else.

Sorry synax, but you're wrong. Actually, it's not your fault because the picture is not big enough, but if you take a close look at the top of the receiver, you can see:

- my blue linksys wireless router, set as an access point (you can't tell that based on the picture! ) atop a kid's stuff
- a black wireless receiver from my microsoft wireless desktop (you can't tell this because both the wireless mouse and wireless keyboard are not seen, the chair is blocking their view)
- a 12-year old white (it used to be white) Panasonic speakerphone (you can't tell the brand based on the picture as well, too small print to read)
- and FINALLY, a COASTER, bought in Death Valley, during a trip to this hot and nice part of the USA !! it's in between the speakerphone and the wireless receiver.

So, see, there _is_ a place for the beer!
