Gday guys, yet another problem has arose. After recently re-installing Windows XP Pro, and installing the right drivers for most devices - there is one that doesn't want to work.
More precisely, Intel(R) 82801EB USB2 Enhanced Host Controller - 24DD has a yellow exclamation on it under the Device Manager. Now, Ive installed the right drivers from the CD for it but it says that Windows cannot initialise the device driver for this hardware (Code 37). I suspect this is why I can't got my damn printer\scanner to work for me (and I have installed the drivers my Canon ImageCLASS MP370) which is an issue considering I have important things I need to print out.

How can I solve this as Ive never had this problem before?

you've probably already tried these, but just in case...

have you tried getting windows to look for drivers online? that's helped on a few occasions (although not nearly as many as I'd like) but it's worth a shot

also, removing the device (right-click->remove) and installing it again could do the trick... I have no clue why but it has been known to work

anyway, hope you get it all going

Check to see who the manufacturer of the Drivers is - my bet is that it will say "Microsoft" - winXP likes to install the Microsoft driver versions. If so, kick those out, and install the manufacturers Drivers.

you said that you installed the drivers from teh CD, maybe you should remove them and allow Windows XP to install it's recommended ones to start with.

You might just be using outdated drivers that don't function particularly well with a more updated Win XP. Forget the CD and download the drivers offline. If you can't find them on the manufacturers website check out sites like drivermagic.com

I X I - Tried that, except Im not quite sure how to get it to search the net for drivers though.

WebShaman - The manufacturers name instead says "Intel". When the "Intel' drivers are installed they ain't digitally signed either.

Blaise - Tried that too, XP just ended up installing the drivers that remained on the system from the previous CD installation.

Jestah - Ive found some updated drivers at drivermagic.com but when I go to register for a free account, the page loads up to nothing. Refresh doesn't work. So now I can't even get an account at the goddamn site that most likely has the drivers that I need! And Intel's website, bit of a maze and it didn't have much. (unless I naviagated about it wrongly).

Thanks for the offer I x I, but Ive FINALLY solved the problem. Like I said, I've just re-installed Windows. Friend of mine said to try updating. Previously done this and it said there wasn't much to update (must have done it wrong) as when I tried last night I had Service Pack 1 to install and very important driver update for USB which solved all my hassles. WOOT. Thanks to the lot of you for the guiding hand as to what it might've been.

Cheers

I can't help laughing at this one. The USB patch is one of those Windows updates that it is so easy to overlook when troubleshooting a USB2 problem, but the clues were there...

I had a similar problem with a USB 2.0 PCI card. I spent days trying to find a solution. It functioned perfectly well as a USB 1.1 card, but simply would not operate in high-speed mode.

Eventually, it became apparent that the specific chipset refused to play nicely with XP.

Funnily enough, a friend was building a Linux box. I gave him the card. It worked perfectly.

Go figure.
