It seems that the most popular yahoo searches are "Hilary Duff", "skateboarding", and "anime". Although maybe those are just random searches or something.

I know that a skateboarding anime video of Hilary was the *first* thing I searched for.

Actually it was for outpost.com commercials.

This actually doesn't take much in terms of people resources. A couple of digital cable feeds , a bunch of video cards with video in, take a screen grab every few seconds and then parse the closed captioning for the text.

You'll probably find the smaller networks (less than 30 million homes) won't be searchable, they're not required to have closed captioning.

heh actually after some playing, anyone else getting results for kron 4 and ktvu in the top of a lot of their searches? These are local (the SF Bay Area) stations. If google are getting local cable feeds for this that would answer that or they're using some sort of localization features.
