That's a nice clarification.

When FireFox addicts says its faster, they often forget that they have more "competitors" than IE. However, Opera is fast and has some interresting features but I can't get used to Opera's shortcuts and interface. But that's a matter of choice.

Propoganda! all of it!!

But it's interesting stuff none the elss, personally though after I've set up firefox and tweaked the network settings i find it nice a fast, easy to use and a very happy piece of software!

Also it doesn't have an add in the top right corner of the window

[teasing] Opera has no ad in the top right corner of the window ... if you pay 34? [/teasing]
Actually that's not the ad in Opera that annoys me the most. What makes me push weird noises is the shortcuts.

Opera makes noise?
Either I turned them or just never had my headphones on.

Hmm...
Yeah, I turned off sounds in Preferences.

The only thing I don't like about the newer point release is that the sidebar takes up too much space. I'm gonna roll it back one of these days.

Other than that, I seriously adore Opera for too many reasons to list.

warjournal: it is me who make some noise/cry as I try to use some keyboard shortcuts that do not work in Opera ( i.e. Ctrl+T, Alt+D, Ctrl+Enter, Ctrl+Shift+Enter, Shift+Enter, ... )

Poi : Opera's keyboard shortcuts and mouse gestures (something lacking in FF in my humble opinion) can be edited to suit your needs.

wj : You can change the size of the toolbars (or disable them) as in Opera 7.x. If they take more space you still can reduce their size... No ?

i never had opera make any noises for me.

the fact that it is the fastest browser has been around for a long time. nothing new.
and now version 8 is just even more convenient than before. nothing makes me touch any firefox or ie again.

Moon Shadow: thanks for the info about the shortcuts. I don't find how to add Ctrl+Enter ( adds the www. and .com to an address ), Shift+Enter( adds the www. and .net to an address ) and Ctrl+Shift+Enter ( adds the www. and .org to an address )

You certainly know there is some mouse gestures extensions for FireFox. Ok, ok, they are not built in by default

I'm certainly wrong, but IMHO Opera is a browser for advanced users while FireFox is a browser for web developers/designers. On the standards support Opera and FireFox are on the same level. FireFox may not be the fastest it's not slow at all. But now that I tried some things like EditCss, GreaseMonkey, live HTTP headers, the DOM inspector, URIid + custom CSS, ... there is no way I switch to a browser without those features.

Yes and no.
For example, I like having the sidebar set to bookmarks and having it open.
However, they added those damn extra buttons and it's those buttons that make the sidebar much too big for my tastes. I want the bookmarks, but not the buttons.

Maybe I just need to dig a little deeper.

Oh! I found it.
Panel selector placement thingie.
Buttons be gone!

I'm happy.

Anyway, us Firefox and Opera users should all just get along, we should be happy in the knowledge that we're both using standards compliant browsers, everything else is just personal taste.

It's just the freaky deaky IE users that that give me the heeby jeebies!

Um... duh? ;p

I generally use Konqueror. It's taken some great leaps in the last year or two, and is starting to get really good -- I also use Firefox when Konqi breaks or when I need my happy plugin features.

Poi :

Go to Preferences -> Mouse and Keyboard, and edit the current keyboard configuration.

Then go to Advanced -> Edit widget.

Create a new a shortcut (ctrl shift Enter for example) or edit the existing ones and in the action field add Insert, ".com". It shall do the trick.

I'm less concerned with speed then I am with overall appearance and ease of use in a web browser. As far as I'm concerned, with computers & internet connections being as fast as they are, I find most differences to be hardly noticeable.

I haven't liked Opera since it was first introduced. I've downloaded various versions in the past few years but none of them interest me.

Moon Shadow: Where can I find the list of possible actions ? It's already a bit odd to type the shortcuts in full text so guessing the syntax of the actions will be a tough job But I recognize it's great to have the possibility to remap them.

Firefox and Opera are great for pretty much the same reasons. The main reason: There not IE..
I actually use Mozilla, which to no surprise is the slowest, but I've found, excluding the startup time theres no speed difference between Mozilla and FireFox(I do have 2gb or ram which would explain this). Also, the testing methods used are smart but not really that accurate, I'd say it was done with a stopwatch too. They also dont account for a lot or variables.

I haven't used Opera in a long time, when I did I thought the interface was bollox though, but I can't see an advantage over FireFox (I Really dont want to start a discussion about this though.) other than it can save the "state" or windows or whatever its called, you can do this in firefox using sets of bookmarks anyway. Also, the speed difference, unless the JS engine has been improved a good bit(I'll switch if its a big difference, maybe), the difference in startup time is the difference between 1 second and 1 and half, big deal.

What this chart needs is another comparison chart of compatiblity with web standards. It's easier to be faster when you're not rendering CSS or Javascript correctly.

on a lighter note,
IE is now being used in less than 50% of the asylum requests.

OPERA RULES!!! I like FireFox nice simple but... OPERA'S OPERA MAN!!! If it weren't for this accursed Spyware that's hijacked my mouse's right button I would've had more fun using it
