How is Photoshop's 16 (or apparently 32) bit editing capability these days? Can you set the format to 16 bits and then forget about it? In the version I have, there are pretty severe limits on what you can do in 16 bits, making it kind of useless.


 

I don't have PSCS, but the PSCS2 What's new PDF states the customization of the keyboard shorcuts. At last it'll be possible to fix the English shortcuts not working on French keyboards. I hate to use localized versions of softwares and turning my keyboard layout in EN tricked me several times so it's not a viable option for me.

It also says that the support of 16bits images is enhanced and works with more filters.

I love photoshop... it makes me so happy

And FINally!... A decent sharpening tool! "Smart Sharpen" -- WooHoo!

it's also opensource if you want to include it in your own software.

Wow. The jump from 7.0 to CS didn't impress me enough to merit the large hole it would have left in my wallet, but I'm definately going to be getting CS2.

I got my upgrade yesterday. Seems cool but I don't really have anything to show off yet.

Bridge is cool. It's essentially an improved file browser that works with all the Adobe progs as a stand alone. That also means that it can work in the background processing multiple RAW files or whatever while you do something else in PS.

The perspective filter (or "optical lens correction") is cool too, and will be a favorite for web stuff. I lets you move 2d objects around in 3d space.. sort of.

I can't wait to play with the 32 bit HDR feature but I have to get off my a** and shoot some bracketed exposures to do that.. looks like a kick-ass feature.

There are 3 new blurs I haven't touched; box, shape and surface.

It has better noise reduction though I'm not convinced it's as good as some of the plug ins.

Smart sharpen I haven't played with. From the video that comes with the disk it seems like old fashioned methods will still work better.

It has a wysiwyg font menu! Yes!

Smart objects will save me from copying a layer just to leave something untouched in case I change my mind.

Vanishing point is very very cool.

No more layer linking. That column in the layers palette is gone. You can select multiple layers now.. just shift-click.

I'm sure I've missed stuff.. that's what sprang to mind with a little coaxing.

Am I the only one that has it? I keep expecting to see "woohoo" posts all over the place but don't.

I wanted to get 7 just because of the brush size / opacity slider... but that was not *quite* enough....

Not exactly: look at the bottom of your layers palette, the first button is... a link icon! you can still do multiple layer selections, then link them if you need a "permanent" layer association.

What I love in CS2 is the myriad of litte tweas done everywhere: the cursor is always visible, even on neutral grey.
You will never have a menu off screen if you reduce resolution, or if you go from 2 monitors to one. More palettes are stacable under each other (even info under histogram in wide mode).
The problem of auto-selection of hidden layers is gone. Actions play WAY faster. More 16bit filters.
The " ALT" shortcut for save as has been set to windows default. One can roll up the background in windows, like on a mac.
Animation palette is now in Photoshop.
