*starts singing*
TEMPLAR GETS A JOB!!! TEMPLAR GETS A JOB!!!
*stops singing but feet for some reason continue some stupid steps*
It's part time but who care's I GOT A JOB!! Why I'm so happy I don't know perhaps it's the fact that the companies based in Japan and that the CEO was quite excited about me joining that he phone personally from Japan, well actually voice chatted, to tell me just how excited he was... personally, I find him kind of creepy!!
The pays not that much but it's part so it'll keep me busy for the hols. It's for a CSS Designer, not many in this part of the globe which is why I'm kinding of sobbing now... I should have asked for more!! But I think this will be good for me, I'll gain some well deserved experince, I'll finally have some meat in my portfolio and above all it just so happens that the CEO has contacts with a certain 'Eric Meyer'... yes the Eric Meyer good for me as I've appropriatly made what seems to be a good impression on the dude
Perhaps I'll get to meet him, maybe even a trip to Japan... I know you might all be thinking this guys an idiot! He's just there part time and he's thinking for joining the Board of Directors!! Well allow me to clarify a bit. The company wanted me to join full time and the salary was quite acceptable! But I'm got things like college, dreaming of a girlfriend, playing around with The Sims, that sudden Linux enthusiasim that's grown in me and of course above all my site!! It's been God knows how long into the development of v3! Even I've forgotten how long! Oh speaking of my site, apparently the Japs there really liked it why I don't know I kind of hate it!! I don't know what urged me to make the site like that!! Ok so it's CSS what else is new! By the way here's the site of the said company:
http://www.hitechsol.net/
It's one of the first tasks assigned to me, make a new layout for it and another site which is obviously something off Template Monster! I was supposed to convert the HTML into CSS, finished that today, yes I started from today I NEED MONEY!!!
So anyway just thought I'd let you all know, why... I don't know! I'm guess I'm just happy!! BTW I was wondering what the inmates think of the site??
*grin on face, a bit happy, takes out old cd of oldies... plays in itune*

Congrats.
The site...
The menu doesn't display over the Flash (I'm on Linux atm, so that may be it [I seem to remember that the normal way of putting things over Flash doesn't seem to work for Linux, go figure]) -- doesn't seem to work at all on the main page in my Windows Firefox (_shrug_). Luckily, the Flash can easily be replaced by a GIF - I mean it isn't even constantly animated, it just does something on load, then sits there.
The gray space under the Flash seems wasteful and out of place.
It was clearly designed with IE in mind, leading to a lot of positioning problems in other browsers.
Little problems like the Home link going back to Index.html instead of index.html...it almost seems like nobody ever uses this website.
HTML doesn't validate. CSS has some hacks and other oddities.
Not wild about pixel-fixed width.
Text is a little small.
JavaScript browser-sniffing in the way they're doing is just asking for it.
Other than that I rather like it. I like the colors.

In addition to what reisio said above, I think there's too much unused whitespace. Nothing important though...
Hope you enjoy your new job!

Exactly what I said when they wanted me to review it! They've changed it a bit now it was worse before!
As for a CSS Designer well I'm going to do all the hardcore CSS and at the same time I'm one of the layout designers. So therefore a CSS Designer.
Well todays the second day! I just hope that lizard isn't in the office next to my computer anymore!!!

Congratulations.
But I'll second what Ram said about "the Japs," and you'll get no winking slimie from me, because that's pretty serious stuff where I come from. It's far too late to edit your post now, which is unfortunate, but you might want to make sure it doesn't happen again. Never mind how it makes you look to the inmates here... what if your employer stumbles across the Asylum and reads that?

A word of advice for the job industry:
Once you leave this job, which you say you are only in for the expereince, you are going to want a reference. Without that reference your 'experience' counts for nothing to your next employer, so you may as well not be doing the job in the first place. If your employer does happen to see this and, quite rightly, takes umbrage at the fact you refered to them as 'the Japs' then that reference may not be forthcoming. You've always got to remember that everything you do and say can potentially get back to those who employ you. Especially since you've linked to their site from here, and I know quite well that a number of admins will follow backlinks to their sites, to see who's linking them. And remember that, since your chosen field of profession is in the internet, that through this internet word spreads. One wrong comment in the wrong places (especially for someone who, as you claim, is connected to the venerable Eric Meyer) can rearrange your name to spell 'mud' everywhere else. Never underestimate the power fo the grapevine. Word spreads. End of story.

... alright first of all, even though the company is in japan it's run by Pakistani's! It's small time and by what I've heard today the CEO just met Eric Meyer in a seminar... *sheesh*... anyways, I'm only going to stay for about a month and a half then maybe I'll try something else.

Heh Heh... I'm not going to worry much about that! The company's really small time, the office I work in is just one room... yes it is! There's a lizard in there who for some reason likes to sit right next to my computer which of course I share with another designer, who I'm teaching CSS. Then there are two other programmers who just keep looking into their screens as if they've been hypnotized or something and just keep typing... one of them might stand up and yawn for a while... until he continues! My boss just sits in the corner and looks around for new scripts on HotScripts or some new downloadables from SnapFiles! He moves his chair now and then to look at what we're doing! Other than that the office is the size of around 2 standard cubicals joined together!!
So from all that I'm not guessing they check for backlinks!!

Never underestimate. That's the first mistake many people make. They think that somehow no one will ever find out about it. Never underestimate the power of your co-workers to find out what you're doing, never underestimate the power of your supervisor to find out what you're saying and never underestimate the power of your CEO to find out what you are writing.

Ahh, there aren't many orientals in my little neck of the woods, just us crackers mostly, so I've never really known how serious it was considered to them. In that case I humbly retract my winking slimie.

Ok this is getting a tad too far!! I'm not racist! I like far east people! I've got a couple of friends here who are from China, Malaysia and one from Tokyo! They call me and just about every other Pakistani 'Pakis' but they don't mean to be disrespectful! Nor do I, still if someone thinks me do a boo boo then my apologies to them.

templar: I just want to clarify that I was not accusing you of being racist, I was accusing you of being insensitive. You may not mean any disrespect by the term, but I'm sure there are plenty of Japanese who would be offended by the term. Using the term with friends who know you well and will understand your intentions is fine, using it on a public forum is not.
I suppose that, being a minority where I live, I'm very sensitive to racial slurs and insults.
Anyway, sorry for derailing your celebratory thread...

Well said Suho, I don't think we need to be pointing the finger here at anyone.
It's interesting though how abbreviations of peoples whereabouts can be sometimes used for insults and other times not. I've done a bit of searching and I can't find a place where Japs is defined and an insulting term for the Japanese, maybe it's like calling a British person a Brit, or an Australian an Aussie. The derogatory term for Japanese, from what I understand has often been 'Nip' however this comes from the Second world war when Japanese reffered to themselves as Niponese, so in some ways it's much the same as Japanese and Japs.
I live in East London which has the largest population of Bengali's outside of Bengal, there are also many Pakistani's, however if I went round reffering to these people as Paki's I'd certainly end up bloodied and bruised, perhaps worse.
I think what we really should appreciate is that it's from the context it's used in. As Suho says, when used amongst friends, language can be altered, abbreviated, and informal. However in a public place or indeed internet forum where context is daily, even hourly missunderstood, formality is perhaps paramount.
Cheers,
