NES VIDEOS : Tool-assisted superplay movies

This site explains some tricks in old games like Mario and features Time Attack videos of many games on NES, SNES, GB, GB, GENESIS.

I just watched the 16"30 warpless time attack of Arkanoid on NES. That's amazing.
I've downloaded the time attack of Gradius, Metal Gear Solid, Ghosts and Goblins and Super Turrican

Ok the videos are "tool assisted", which means they are done in emulators, often in slow mode and with a lot of re-record but they are clear on that and on their goal : to get the most amazing result without cheating. And they succeed.

Man, I haven't done a good time attack in a long time. My personal favorite was Mega Man X. With 6 pack of tall boys, I could beat in about an hour. I was like the drunken master of Mega Man X. Also used to do Super Mario Kart. Used to beat SMK in dinky mode with all starting boosts and never looking back. (Recently went to an old bud's house and played Super Mario Kart again after all these years - boy did I suck after being spoiled with Double Dash. You should have seen me try to power slide - pathetic.)

A bud of mine was a whiz at Super Mario World. Some of the acrobatics he did were jaw dropping. He was the same way with Super Donkey Dong.

YES! Me too! Heh, though it takes me on average about 2 hours to beat X. I probably TA with Megaman X more than any video game I own.

About a month ago I beat Zelda: A Link to the Past in 9 hours. And I got EVERYTHING, all the items and all the hearts. I didn't just race through it to beat ganon. I was quite proud of my accomplishment.

Wow, A Link to the Past in 9 hours, all items, a great accomplishment indeed. I haven't even seen that game for at least 9 years.

Yeah Super Mario Kart in Mini-mode 150cc mushroom cup, me and my friend used to do that constantly, I was always Toad, far far better than that stinky Koopa trooper!

Blaise, dem fighin' words! Koopa kicks Shroom Head's butt any day. I mean, that big fat head just wobbling around like a freak. You would think that his fat head would help with power sliding, but no.

Insider, I've got Mega Max X for the PC around here somewhere. If I can find it, I'll sell it to you for $54.99.

And that is a damn fine time for Link to the Past for getting everything. I never kept track of my time on that one, but probably around 25 hours if I did things out of order and skipped a few things.

Man, I starting to get the itch for some Super Mario. I wonder how rusty I've gotten at these games. I might have to go back to my bud's house for an SNES marathon.

Mega Man rocks!!!

Super Mario was way to easy - all of them. I enjoy the imported version that was only released in Japan - now THAT is fun!!!

Actually I'm going to have to step it up a gear and say that My friend and I ditched the little fella's because they got too easy after a while, we then progressed to mini Donkey Kong and Bowser, those guys got some hela mad speed init

But seriously don't try and make me laugh by claiming Kooper was better than Toad, everyone knows kooper was for sissy girls

I've been getting into Prince of Persia Warrior Within these days, that game is worth a good speed run, can be completed in under 4 hours, and it's a groovy game to get into with all the acrobatics.

Cheers,

Web, I'm not sure which one you are talking about. If I remember correctly, Super Mario World II was actually a different game in Japan, but Mario-ized for the USA. Is that the one?

Now, I can whip through most Mario worlds in all versions, but I've only beaten Bowser in a few. For example, I couldn't beat Super Mario World 64 for some reason. And I've never beaten the orginal Super Mario. There's something about the way that they play.

Alright, Blaise, you got me with Bowser and Kong. I was good with the lights and mediums, but I could never get the hang of the heavies. I could handle the speed, but the power sliding for the heavies was too . . . wide. My playing style needs sublty and finese.

For me, playing most games is about the acrobatics and freedom to free-style when you get into the zone. My bud can do this almost at will once he gets the hang of game. I also met one guy that was an absolute Zen master at this in Stryder. They can play the same level over and over and it's always full of new on-the-fly maneuvers.
