I've lost my jumper for my HD and I don't have any spares. I was wondering... is it possible for me to make some sort of make shift jumper

well you just need to connect the two pins that the jumper would do normally, try using a small paper clip cut down to size and wrapping it round the pins, this is dangerous though as you could damage the pins iif you're not careful, plus the wire connection would have to stay firm.

Are you sure you don't have a jumper that's not in use on your motherboard or somewhere?

Many HDs default to cable select without a jumper so it may still work.

And yeah anything that connects the pins should do in place of a jumper.

Hmmm... which devices in the PC actually use jumpers? Well other than the HD and CD! I'm kind of scared on that makeshift jumper now

well, if you're scarred to do some makeshift work (honestly... all you need is some kind of conductor between the pins. Even the bottom part of a candle light would do), buy some new ones on ebay

(okok... don't know what you're gonna do with the remaining 49 pieces, but hey ;-))

well ... just make sure you don't touch the pins when the computer is on and make sure the conductor doesn't touch any of the other pins.

I fried my 80gb hd with a single touch of a finger.

you could use the one off of your a:/ drive (if you have one) I would not mess with the make shift shit. For one if a metal jumper that has no outer coating of plastic moves and hits something else that can conduct while the computer is on there is a good chance you might fry it. Plus you would have a hard time wrapping it tight enough to make a good sturdy connections without messing up the pins.

Why not just knit a new one?

Because then you won't get hit by lightning as often as you would if you had a nice, heavily conductive one.
