I have a friend that is trying to use Transmit to FTP some images to my web server. I set up an account for him and he says that he put them on the machine. When he turns off Transmit and restarts it, he can't see the images and I have not seen them appear on the server.

I don't have a Mac so I'm not familiar with how Transmit might work. I'm wondering if the program is creating a local cache on his machine and telling him it has moved the images to the local cache when he thinks they are going to my server.

Would anyone who has a Mac and uses FTP please help me figure out why he can't load the images to my site?

Try RBrowser. Shareware, but the FTP parts of the program are freeware.

Or learn command-line and FTP from the Terminal, ..

Or hit Command-K in the Finder and log into the FTP server from there.

Sometimes you may have to use the notation that goes like this, ..

ftp://(username)password)@(address)
(Take out the parentheses inserting the right info)

Ditto for Terminal and that syntax thing.

Good luck.

[Edit: And ignore that lil slime that snuck his way in there. It's a colon and a parenthesis there that messed it up.]

You can use the checkbox under the reply box, Xel, to turn off slimies in that post. So you can type :( safely. Or you can put it inside a code block.

I use Transmit and I love it. Can't imagine how he could "see" the files if they weren't there. Transmit uses a two pane interface that shows (on the left) your local directories and files: "your stuff", and (on the right) the server contents: "their stuff". It's drag and drop from one pane to the other. There's a little progress bar that indicates transfer. If he saw the progress bar and saw the files in the "their stuff" pane it seems to me like they got uploaded.

I did have to manually set my favorites to "passive" mode in some cases, but before I did that nothing uploaded so there wasn't any sense that something had happened when if fact it hadn't.

Friend better look into the documentation and try again. Sure he has the right directory on the server?
