Topic awaiting preservation: Username change for an old user? (Page 1 of 1)

Hey, I havent been here in.. well... 5 years or so (back in the DBM forum days) and i miss this place. Could i get a username change?
Current: swedespeed
Would like to have: boostdemon

it would just help me out a lot in remembering what to log in with since i havent used swedespeed in quite some time.

one question ... why not simply registering a new account called 'boostdemon' and put ' fka Swedespeed' in your sig until all the old-timers get the message ?

Didnt want to lose this:

Its mostly that someone built a website called swedespeed and its a rival of my website... childish i know, but i'd rather not be mistaken for the wrong admin

sorry... user name changes are a hazzle... they're cached with each of your post for performance reasons, and while it would be possible, it's going to cost me about 2 hours of my life... and honestly, I' don't rate your 'insane since' that high ;-)

TP, I'll give you 5 black pills if you do it. I honestly doubt it takes 2 hours of your life to change it. I could probably do it in 15 minutes if you gave me a chance at it.

zavaboy: I guess you're kinda kidding, but anyway I'll give you 10 black pills if you manage to make it in 1/2 an hour. I've never seen the source code of the Grail, but since there is some caching, I'm pretty sure it'll take much more than 15 minutes for a fresh mind ( as in s1 who knows nothing about the DB structure, caching techniques, ... ) to rename a user absolutely everywhere its name appears. Regenerating or parsing the caches itself gonna take a while.

poi, Your right. I don't know the Grail. I just wanted to see if TP will give me that chance, hehe.

ok... here's the other way... register a new username, I'll fix your insane since date... that's a whole lot quicker.

Actually the issue of private messaging came up when we were creating the grail. And it was roundly shouted down. I can't quite remember all the arguments against it, but they were valid, believe me. There is, however, a 'send email to user' facility located in each user's cell. So click on TP's name in one of his posts to go to his cell, and there should be (down the bottom) a link to let you email him.
