~cough.
Don't know what to say. Eight months without a drop of water, meditating 12 hours a day?
This is reaching several news channels outside of Asia and Buddhist websites btw.

Wow, he plans to meditate for 6 years!
That is incredible.
I wonder if he will succeed?

Somehow, it's interesting indeed.
Has he found ways to control his body that are beyond our current scientific understanding?
I mean, 12 hours a day, wether he eats or not, have to be a pain in the rear.
We were talking, a few days ago, with a friend of mine, about the limits of science and the human perception vs the immensity of the creation,
so yeah, it could be a new Buddah, and he could succeed, transcend his human condition, and fly away to the twiligh.. nirvana, why not?
I wonder what spacefold would say about it?

Wierd...
quote: During the half hour observation the medical team noticed Bomjon breath three times, swallow his saliva once and move his eyelashes.
Three breaths per 30 minutes...
Granted, he doesn't exercise much but still...
8 months without water I don't buy though, neither totally without nutritions.
I can't see that you can stop your body from starting to consume itself over time, slow it down granted, but not stop it.
As for water, well if you could stop breating, sweating, peeing etc the moisture would remain in the body, but since there is an ongoing chemical process in the body to extract fuel from water as well as food the moisture must lose in efficency even if you don't lose any quantity.
No wonder these long term meditation persons gets visions and contacts with spirits...
Personally I get dizzy and imaginative after a day with not enough food

~spooky~
Could be true.
@DMS Beyond our understanding means strange phenomenons we don't know ~~ as in quantum physics applications like teleportation of a light beam
(that one IS science now, was impossible to picture ten years ago), so internal moisture balance doesn't count here.
I personaly saw Shaolin exhibitions where mind over matter did amazing things, so who knows?

if he's really dedicated he'll still be there but if not he'll probably knock some sense out of him and move out of that tree.

I've watched the tv show on France 2 btw, and it says that wether he dies or succeeds, the natives won't help him.
Whatever his choice is, their philosophy tells them to let him live his choices.
I find that amazing btw. If he dies, it'll be his choice, but unless he expresses a desire to stop, nobody will try to influence him.
Some monks who deeply believe what he is doing is "feasible" mentionned techniques that allowed him to
"capture the required energies by breathing"
Some more crunchy details? He doesn't... well, since he doesn't eat, supposedly, he doesn't ~cough, sh* either.
And about the monsoon, if it is what we french people call "mousson", he's been through it already.
Actually, it started off as a young boy going to the woods to meditate, the place was a forest, with wild animals and all,
and he just sat there and didn't care.
He once came back to his familly to tell them he would not come back again before six years.
Then with the masses invading the place, they cut trees and made it a pilgrimage site.
He casually speaks to one person, and one person only.
"Bed thing" is amazing in any event.
Ah, and he hates occidentals calling him "Buddah boy", he says he is far from Buddah's accomplishment, and that he is not Buddah anyway.

He sure is one heck of a dedicated kid. I cant even stay not moving in one place for an hour. What more in 6 years.
